CoGe Beta 3 released!
" Guys, i’m really happy to release the new, Beta 3 release of the world’s sexiest VJ software, CoGe. This release is more stable and powerfull and adds many new things i described in my previous post.
Well, there are MSAA, OSC support, Global key/midi set, rendering window to controls, and an experimental video exporting feature – which is not the best – and many other things. Now you can bind midi buttons to sliders, and midi faders to buttons and matrixes like the 3 cell FX switch. There are some new inputs for Quartz Composer modules as well, check the templates and don’t hesitate to ask me if you don’t know something. More detailed info soon
As you know, the manual still missing, but guys, don’t be afraid, let’s discover the app!

The project began in 2005 and was completed in early 2009 with the help of sound designer, Ramah (Malebranche) Jihan, and assistant, Sarah (Lathrop) Midkiff. The video has been successfully exhibited in over 23 video art and film festivals since December 2008.

Carolien Teunisse (Utrecht, The Netherlands)
" I study Digital Video Design at the art academie of Utrecht in Holland. "
KuberiasTechnocreati 1.0 from Carolien Teunisse on Vimeo.
KuberiasTechnocreati is about inspiration and creation. It shows the invisible communication between our inner imaginary world and the bodily physical outside it has effect on. The outside world is trapped in structures where only media, the digital image, the creating cube, can set it free in organic forms.
The sides of the kinetic cube open and close with help of a servo-motor and is like the smoke machine, connected to a arduinoboard.
You can check this video to see the inside:
youtube.com/watch?v=CDeD5BJY3n8
This installation is made by Jeroen Cluckers and me during my half year study atelier media-art abroad, on the academy of Ghent.
It still needs a bit of work to make the machinery more reliable and better the timing, sound and images. In June we will finish a next version. All tips and comments are welcome:)

Installation meets MusicVisualisation from Carolien Teunisse on Vimeo.
The first part is a registration of the space-specific installation "Tussenin" at the basement of the Kunsttoren in Ghent.
The tubes visualize the energy in between subjects that cannot be seen. This turns into a visualisation of connections that are made in the actual space in between.
Audio: Robin Koek

"Waarkijk" an Interactive Video sculpture from Carolien Teunisse on Vimeo.
"Waarkijk" which means something like "Truesee" is a video-installation which reacts to the position of the user and explores the different ways we see things.
This was filmed at the exposition "ikwilruimte" at the Temporary Art Centre in Eindhoven.
The sculpture is intuitivly made out of wood and bed sheets.
There are three visualizations of the three realms of reality (by Slavoj Žižek) the user can navigate thru.
The first is the Symbolic real visualized by found-footage,
second is the Imaginary real visualized by morphing photo’s,
the third and last stage is the Real reality, an abstract and direct world.
Hardware: 2 projectors, dualhead2go, sonar sensor, arduino, laptop
Software: Max/MSP/Jitter
I didn’t use the original sound of the recorded footage because it was too noisy.
Made together with Jessica Dreu
Church inside out from Carolien Teunisse on Vimeo.
Space specific video-installation on the St. Willibrordus church in Utrecht.
Two projectors were used to illuminate the church with its own graphical art from the inside, projected on the outside.
It shows the changing identity of the church and religion, the old and physical put next to the nieuw and virtual way of contact between people.

Experience is nothing else than change of memory.
Film-leaders and takes of railways are the raw footage of the work. By manipulation and montage in relation to the musical composition there are points for thoughtful excursions, roundabouts, dreams, curves,
imaginations and lost memories. But the continuance of transitoriness keeps its familiar riddle. A railway
journey as a cinematographic experience.
"The flowers are not flowers anymore, but spots of colour, or better to say red and white stripes. There is no point, everything turns into stripes. Cornfields like long yellow strands of hair and meadows like long green plaits. Church towers and trees start to dance and merge in a lunatic way with the horizon. Sometimes a shadow appears, a ghost (...) and disappears like a flash" (Victor Hugo, 1837)

Apple's Magic Trackpad revealed?
Of all the surprises we expected to hear about in the WWDC keynote, a multitouch trackpad peripheral didn't exactly pop into our brains. But -- whoomp -- here it is. What we appear to be looking at is a brand new input device that Apple has dreamed up which connects to desktops (and laptops, if you like) via Bluetooth, much like the Apple Keyboard. If you take what you see in the photos at face value, it would seem that the folks in Cupertino are making a play for finger-based input in a big way -- taking the work they've done on Mac laptops and the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and translating it to the desktop realm. This weirdly lines up perfectly with rumors from earlier in the year, emanating from both John Gruber (of Daring Fireball fame), and MacRumors -- the former reporting that Apple was set to release a "Mentioned-Nowhere-Else-But-in-This-Very-Headline Multi-Touch Trackpad Gadget for Desktop Macs," and the latter taking notice of an Apple trademark application for the "Magic Trackpad." It certainly all makes sense given that the company has made not-so-subtle moves away from standard input devices to finger-friendly options in many, many of its recent products. Whatever the case may be, we're potentially just hours away from the truth, so feast your eyes on the photos, and get ready for the big reveal.
Update: New images received with a claim that the device supports handwriting recognition in addition to "every feature you can find on a Magic Mouse (and possibly features of a MacBook Pro trackpad)." This, from a person who claims to be personally testing it. Something we hope to do for ourselves before the day is through.
Update 2: Reader Dan Berte made a quick little cardboard mockup using his Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse for relative sizing and he's estimating the tracking area to be around six inches diagonal. Makes sense -- check his handiwork after the break.

Venue:
club transmediale 2009
To kick-start the festival's night program at MAO, visomat inc. and telematique, two longstanding friends and allies of CTM, together with musician Errorsmith perform a live audio-visual composition on and with their large scale installation "Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung" - surface refinement.
The installation "Halbzeug" is project in progress and a result of a long time research and development. It can be seen as an architectural study: modular, geometric Styrofoam elements arranged to create large-scale, adaptive spatial structures. Developed further as "Oberflächenveredelung" (Surface Refinement) it involves media in a way that is aiming at an interaction between a geometric body, light and sound. At MAO, "Halbzeug Oberflächenveredelung" elegantly adapts to and transforms the existing architecture where it covers parts of the main hall's walls and ceiling. Video projectors are used to animate the structure by precisely tracing individual elements with light. It describes a path towards form and delivers a massive, sensual re-definition of space. Styrofoam is an industrial material; a completely synthetic product. It stands for functionality, simplicity and minimalism, exactly the qualities that the installation references in contemporary architecture and interior design.

Kérdések (EFOTT)
Ti mennyi loop-ból csináltok meg egy bulit?
Szerintetek a koncert vizuálnak kel-e kötődnie valamennyire a zenéhez?
A szombati EFOTT tapasztalataim lesújtóak.

Designing Music Visualizers with Quartz Composer - Undocumented Ability of iTunes to Send Data to QC
Designing Music Visualizers with Quartz Composer - Undocumented Ability of iTunes to Send Data to QC from George Toledo on Vimeo.
" When one chooses any of the built in Templates in Quartz Composer, all of the necessary input data is given to you to successfully design that type of Template, for the most part.
For instance, when an Image Filter is chosen, it is delivered with an implicit input image, and also renders via the published output, even though this is transparent to the user. The same is true of the Mesh Filter. Other protocol Templates are basically self sufficient, and have all necessary patches within the confines of the actual qtz file.
The exception to this is the Music Visualizer protocol. Typically, one has to place an Audio Input patch on the Editor, and plug it into necessary patches, or perhaps create output splitters off of the Template's protocol inputs, while connecting the Audio Input patch outputs to the newly created splitter inputs, then tidying up at the end of building a composition, by removing the Audio Input patch, and reconnecting to the protocol Template inputs. This kind of workflow is a bit obtuse to say the least.
More importantly, it provides NO ACCESS to the necessary information to deliver to the HUD info patch, or any of the rich information that is available with the protocol Template's Track Info Output, such as album cover information Via an actual Image Structure!
This is the resolution:
Opening iTunes, going to the View Menu, and selecting any of the built in Quartz Composer based Music Visualizers, then choosing Show Visualizer, results in iTUNES.app broadcasting all needed Music Visualizer protocol information to QuartzComposer.app for all compositions which are marked as belonging to the Music Visualizer protocol.
So, in short, turn on Lathe, Jelly, or Stix, and your running Music Visualizer protocol composition, in Quartz Composer.app, will suddenly be able to access all of the unavailable Track Info structure. Track Position, and Track Signal, allowing you to easily create compositions which use album cover previews, or this other info much more effectively.
A typical example of usage would be to use Track Signal to trigger transitions in your Quartz Composer composition when a new song plays, or to use Track Position in conjunction with the Duration (available via using Structure Key "duration" with the Track Info output) to have an event happen halfway into a song, by using a conditional statement that receives both values.
In addition, all of the needed Audio Peak, Audio Spectrum info, though available by adding the Audio Input patch which is present in QC, is delivered from iTunes in this mode, so no "re-noodling" is needed to introduce this patch into your composition while programming and designing it. In fact, introducing an Audio Input is not necessary at all, if this method is used.
In my discussions with those who are fond of creating Music Visualizer protocol compositions, is that these programmers tend to save their work to a Compositions folder, open and close iTunes to get iTunes to load it, and then actually preview their work in the iTunes.app. This method is obviously an extremely more effective working method.
Besides this undocumented information being of serious benefit to those creating Music Visualizers, it is also interesting to contemplate that when iTunes sends the information to qtz files that it plays, that it doesn't do so via a "direct connect", and that it is actually sending them to ALL compositions that are open that correspond to the Music Visualizer protocol. It seems that there must be some kind of broadcaster in iTunes, and that somewhere, it is specified that any Music Visualizer protocol qtz's protocol inputs can act as receivers/listeners, which is interesting from a purely technical perspective.
I have filed a request for documentation of this information in the Quartz Composer New Template interface in future editions of Quartz Composer. "

Rutt Etra Meshes
Jiggly Rutt Etra Meshes from cybero on Vimeo.
A rough drafting of textured DAE meshes within an audio synced composition using Kineme Audio Tools , output via Quartz Crystal, re-synced within GarageBand.
Graphics are DAE based , using a be-spoked variant of the Jiggle patch, textured via GLSL input into a v002 Rutt Etra patch.
Still experimenting with getting a more subtle and unique response from the Meshes.

An MP4 H.264 movie output via Quartz Crystal, resynced in GarageBand.
Finally managed to get some pertinent and effective level of control over OpenCL meshes in Quartz Composer.
Uses Music Box audio track - an audio doodle that is an original composition.
The Meshes are textured via means of having the v002 Rutt Etra RII feed it texture wise.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2:
Additions
+ On Mac OS X, you're no longer required to have a sketch window open at all times. This will make the application feel more Mac-like--a little more elegant and trendy and smug with superiority.
+ Added a warning to the Linux version to tell users that they should be using the official version of Java from Sun if they're not. http://wiki.processing.org/w/Supported_Platforms#Linux There isn't a perfect way to detect whether Sun Java is in use, so please let us know how it works or if you have a better idea.
Fixes
"Unexpected token" error when creating classes with recent pre-releases. http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/detail?id=292
Prevent horizontal scroll offset from disappearing. Thanks to Christian Thiemann for the fix. http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/detail?id=280 http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/detail?id=10
Fix NullPointerException when making a new sketch on non-English systems. http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/detail?id=283
+ Added requestFocusInWindow() call to replace Apple's broken requestFocus(), which should return the previous behavior of sketches getting focus immediately when loaded in a web browser. http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/detail?id=279 "
