Each "VJ Tool" DVD held 16 looping clips which could be chosen by menu. Clips were used by fosfor for visual performances in dance clubs or off-venues.

Live mixing was done with two portable DVD players (Pioneer PDV-LC-20) and Panasonic MX12 mixer. In some live setups, additional effect units or infrared live cams were included.

Give Peace A Dance is a live DJ/VJ set recorded at the Earthdance dance party held at Fed-Sqaure Melbourne c2003. DJ Visitor (Andrew Till) provided a rhythm of ambiance and progressive sounds to VJ too. The visual component was created as an ongoing experimentation with using the Unreal game engine as a live VJ tool. It was used because of its versatile visual capabilities as a realtime visual (3D) engine. The imagery is all 3D, though it looks 'pseudo 2D' giving it a 3D>2D approach, rather than a more common 2D>3D. The game level (map) titled [VJ]-iSOtpe144, created by VJ Mandala (Adem Jaffers), was made using Photoshop for in game textures and 3dsMax to create geometry to import into the Unreal Editor to construct, code and mod 3D level. Map was then played (VJ'd) using custom scripting via the Unreal Tournament game on a PC. Camera footage of crowd was captured by C31 Public TV members using an OB setup. Live footage is loosely mixed with Game vision. I also heavily sampled images relating to Tibet off the web for intro/outros. Earthdance Logo was an animated version based on the flyer design. VJ mixed vision was displayed onto the massive LED outdoor screen at Fed-SQ, which punched a hole in peoples retinas it was so vibrant. The LED screen was also used to do feedback on a large scale.

I was recently commissioned by the Audio club in Geneva to create their live visual identity.

Audio Club; now one year old, has decided to equip its main stage with LED panels. They asked me to create dynamic and powerful visuals to intensify the stage’s atmosphere mixing in to natural materials like wood and plants.

The set of animated visuals offers a dreamlike feel to the audience; combining forest elements with complex shapes to frame the DJ booth.

With its impressive capabilities to restore and transform, machine learning is a most exciting craft for moving things between the real and digital world, and for imagining things that aren't. Glimpse invites the computational creativity of a neural network to explore the aesthetics of seeing the apparent and tangible as something else.

By capturing dance and piping live footage through neural network models trained to recognise and interpret different features of our world, Glimpse aims to give a pleasurable and joyful sneak peek of a visual expression that blurs boundaries of the real and the fictitious.

A key creative aspect of Glimpse lies in the interplay between physical performer, camera operator, VJ and machine. The unpredictability of the neural network models paired with dance and movement reacting directly to live music makes for truly interesting and improvisational visual performances.

For Sónar Reykjavik, models will be trained using images that portray the artist and match their style, and images that relate to Reykjavik and the festival.

GLSL or OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL), is a high-level shading language with a syntax based on the C programming language. Besides its use for creating 3D objects, it can be also used for generating textures and post-processing of video stream data.

In this course, we gather a lot of practical examples of creating generative graphics and effects. The course is adapted to TouchDesigner environment, but all the techniques and tips, included in the course program, can be used in other environments with minor changes.

TouchDesigner is a media platform for visual programming of generative 3D and 2D graphics, video mapping, interactive installations and for creating applications.

Our course is designed to immerse the student in the maximum number of aspects of the platform in a short time. The course program includes sustainable working with 3D graphics, sound processing and synchronization with music programs and provides the key skills to create the user interface.

By combining theoretical and practical approach, this course gives in-depth understanding of software structure, data flow and 3D graphics.

The course is designed for students of different levels, as well as for the media artists, VJ’s and musicians, who want to expand their visual performance show.
