We also played pre-discussed content fitting to the great live arranged and modulated songs from Jakob Jung - a new talent of the German electronic music scene.

VJ Fest Istanbul – International Live Video Festival

"Fifth edition’s motto is “code for the real world”

VJ Fest Istanbul is an independent visual arts festival, gathering visual artists, musicians and researchers since 2008. In four years the festival has hosted more than 100 artists (58 VJs and visual artists) from 20 countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, U.S.A. They performed at clubs, theater and open space. They made free workshops, presentations and gave talks.

On 12-16 June 2012, ten more multimedia and video artists will be joining. This year’s goal is to bring some light and color to public spaces. There will also be workshops and seminars on new media technologies. VJ Fest will happen at Peyote and Istiklal Street:

Agotha (Bosna-Herzogevina), Charles Bones (Colombia), Soham Sarcar (India), Granda (Andorra), .mrt and Woei (Austria), Sinsynplus, Quirin Empl, Lynx de Luxe and Herr Schoder (Germany), Vjunk and Vidbeat (Turkey) are live visual artists. Alishya (Latvia), Oscar Babani (Spain), Bessumi and Emre Kocabas are the musicians.

VJ FEST ISTANBUL is a promoter of collaborations and contacts for VJs on an international level. VJ FEST Istanbul is dedicated to VJ arts and the developement of VJ culture. It is open and free. This particular example uses midi sync from Ableton Live to generate the control data, which in turn affects the size, position, rotation, and color of the video objects. The video object can be any graphic image. I use still images primarily, although there is some video clips as well. My rules were that the material had to be gathered in a few weeks preceding the show and so there's quite a few references to the election of that year when Labor was returned after 12 years in opposition. Another theme that shows up is the end of analogue television, which is shown here in all its messy interlaced glory.

Only one month to go before the Mapping Festival! All the artistic program is now online with all the practical details, but more importantly, all the info on every artist of this new edition, which promises again tons of exciting discoveries of international fame.

After having recently revealed the 2012 line-up, we now invite you to study in depth this exceptional program revolving around audiovisual arts, digital cultures and VJing. You will find out everything about our numerous installations, instructive workshops, wonderful A/V performances and, of course, clubbing with its talented visual artists and DJs/producers.

The ticket corner is also open and you can, from today, book your tickets and pass directly on the website in order to avoid any disappointment and organize your stay in the fabulous world of the Mapping Festival. Beware, some sites have a limited capacity, so buy your tickets in advance!

We have good news this year regarding our prices: thanks to the support of the City of Geneva, the Mapping offers discounted rates for students, 20ans-20francs and AVS/chômage!

D-Day approaches, that's why the Mapping Festival encourages you to visit its website,www.mappingfestival.com, and join us very soon, curious and prepared, for 10 unforgettable days.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are a core part of the festival organization and its ongoing operations throughout the year. For the 10 days of the festival we need at least 100 volunteers. Without this help the Mapping Festival cannot exist.

For the 8th edition of the Mapping Festival we are looking for highly motivated people willing to dedicate their free time to join up with the Mapping Festival team from April 25th, 2012 until the festival's conclusion.

Volunteer positions are available for: bar tenders/ ticket sales/ runners/ technical experts with knowledge of audio and video, catering assistant and more (french-speaking required!).

THE MAPPING FESTIVAL SUPPORTS THE SOUND:FRAME FESTIVAL (Vienna)

In 2012, the sound:frame festival 2012 will be taking place in Vienna for the sixth time. During this year's theme «substructions», the festival for audiovisual expressions will be dealing with the framework surrounding festival production and cultural work from April 4th to April 22nd. The festival launch will take place at the «substructions» exhibition opening on Thursday, April 12th at 7 p.m. at Vienna's MAK – Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art. On the first weekend and also at MAK, the sound:frame departure conference will deal with three festival focal points "Festival is...", "Positioning of audiovisual art within the context of (fine) art" and "Green Light - go!" For the first time in Vienna, BOILER ROOM VIENNA x sound:frame will take place during a free MAK NITE Special on Thursday, April 19th.

During the first festival weekend on April 13th and 14th, acts like Taylor McFerrin (Brainfeeder / NYC), Svetlana Industries Acts, Elektro Guzzi (Macro / Vienna), Ikonika (Hyperdub / London), Andreas Koller (Strukt / Vienna), ambientartlab (Vienna), kon.txt (Elektrofachadel / Vienna) and many more will be performing at brut im Künstlerhaus.

A 3d projection mapping created for the jazz weekend of Pécs Spring Festival 2012 taking place at Zsolnay Negyed, Pécs, Hungary. The building is a recently restored factory in the heart of the beautiful city of Pécs which became a cultural center after its restoration. It's been a wonderful location for 3D projection mapping and we also had a very ispiring theme: jazz music. We decided to create the 3D mapping show in cooperation with a Hungarian jazz band Mrs. Columbo composing the song: "The sunny side of jazz" which was the title of the 3d projection mapping as well. Hope you'll enjoy this little funny piece of being a Jazz VJ just as we did!

This is a test version installation from cinemata performed at café wagner (jena/germany). The lights and visuals, which were synchronized with each other, were driven by the program Ableton live and a normal midi controller apc40. The pattern of the visuals was created with MIDI notes in Ableton. No masks were needed, a virtual rotating light around the spheres with associated shadows provoke the feeling like the sun is rotating around the earth. In the next update each 3D geometry will rotate independently, focusing on one point in the room.

Alpha #1 est le résultat d’une rencontre entre un musicien -iCu- et une artiste visuelle -Alexia de Ville de Goyet.

iCu est musicien actif depuis 10 ans sur différentes scènes aux styles variés : co-fondateur du label Spank Me More Records, il performe au sein du collectif de soundpainting MATTERS, se produit en jazz avec le quartet Flying Fish Jumps ou en électronique avec le Duo CONCERT DEBOUT. Son travail en solo s'oriente vers la recherche des textures sonores où le son arpentant l'imaginaire et animant les pulsions cinématographiques, cherche à faire vibrer d'autres sens chez l'auditeur.

Alexia est une artiste diplomée de l’Erg en 2005, et qui travaille autour de la narration dans divers médiums. Elle s’intéresse plus particulièrement à la vidéo et commence à proposer ses services de VJ pour de nombreux événements culturels (Camus lit L’étranger - Remix) mais aussi pour des soirées (Leftorium, Bulex, etc). Depuis longtemps elle s’intérroge sur le fait que l’image est toujours au service du son, et cherche à inverser ce rapport.

C’est pourquoi elle invite iCu à venir se connecter sur sa banque d’images et le laisse ainsi seul chef d’orchestre de ce concert visuel tant au niveau du son qu’il improvise au fil de la performance, mais aussi au niveau de l’image. En effet certaines des notes de sa guitare sont connectées à des bandes vidéos créées au préalable par la vidéaste. iCu devient donc ici le VJ, jouant des images enclenchées par les notes qu’il fait, et créant ainsi une sorte de narration aléatoire, l’histoire se faisant par l’enchaînement et la répétition des notes. Ces loops, tant sonores que visuels, mettent le spectateur dans un état méditatif, presque hypnotique. Les vidéos choisies sont projettées sur des stores vénitiens entre-ouverts et découpés par endroits. Les images sont donc difficilement reconnaissables. La plupart des images sont minimalistes et abstraites, imitant le noise TV, et jouant de lignes verticales et horizontales.

La scène intègre le musicien et la vidéaste de part et d’autre des stores-écrans et le tout devient un tableau contemplatif devant lequel le spectateur se laisse porter vers sa propre imagination, sa propre narration.

After Light is a new work by Storybox that explores the significance and symbolism of light across pan-Pacific Asian cultures. Created for the Marina Bay iLight festival Singapore 2012. Material shot in Singapore and New Zealand weaves together several stories of light incorporating a range of cultures from across the region. Final work is played on 14 screens across 27 shipping containers.

- CONCEPT -
This audiovisual Project comes up from the idea to create a new perception of space for the audience through the projected images.

- DESIGN -
For this purpose, has been designed an aluminium longitudinal sections with adhered skimmed PVC sheets. The result is a rectangular prism 4 meters long, 3m high, 1 m deep and a central aperture of 2 meters long and 1 meter high.
The chosen design can be used as a unity or as different elements that interact independently, becoming cubes, totems or lintels. Likewise, the central aperture enhances the space sensation and three-dimensional space and integrates the image in the projected surface.

- CONCEPTO -
Este proyecto audiovisual surge de la idea de crear una nueva percepción del espacio al espectador, a través de imágenes proyectadas.

- DISEÑO -
Se ha diseñado una estructura de perfiles de aluminio a la que se le adhieren planchas de PVC espumado, dando como resultado un prisma rectangular de 4m de longitud, 3 metros de altura, 1 metro de profundidad y con una apertura central de 2m de longitud por un metro de altura.
Se opta por este diseño, primero porque permite que actúe como una sola unidad que utiliza toda la superficie útil de proyección, o como varios elementos que pueden interactuar independientemente, dando como resultado cubos, tótems o dinteles. Y en segundo lugar la apertura central realza la sensación de espacio y tridimensionalidad, y consigue que el foco creativo forme parte de la imagen, integrándose en la superficie proyectada.
