Underneath - is an abstract animation showing the construction of a 3d mesh as an analogy to the formation of crystals under microscopic view. The animation uses real images taken trough a microscope's lens, viewing the formation of different types of salt-crystals, witnessing the process of a fluid becoming a solid structure. The 3d mesh is generated by a fluid simulation and meshed with triangulated polygons is a digital replica of the solidification process. Underneath - created for the group exhibition called VIEWS, delivers the physically deepest point of view we can have on a phenomenon through a real and a virtual microscope layered together.

László Zsolt Bordos (also known as Bordos.ArtWorks) is a 3d artist living in Budapest, Hungary. In 2000 he started as a VJ, performing in the underground party culture of Budapest. With his early 3d-vjing (2001-2004), his participation to huge size architectural slide projections (2002-2005) and his outrageous video projections and 3d mapping projects (2006-2007), he became a pioneer of the genre. Cooperating with other artists since 2010, he started to run the projects under the name 'Bordos.ArtWorks and Invited Artists', which became internationally recognized as eminent representatives of video projection mapping. Since 2014 Bordos is focusing again on solo art projects, installations and scenery projections for theaters and operas.

The State Textile and Industry Museum »tim« in Augsburg is a wonderful place to dive into the worldwide history of the textile industry. (http://www.timbayern.de/en/)

Fashion always has been a big thing in the history of mankind but the conditions for the workers have been and still are pretty questionable:
Sweat, blood, dust, noise, chemicals, mechanical power and lots more of raw materials are processed in huge numbers.

An abandoned building called »Basilika« is one of the last remaining, not yet affected by the gentrification, contemporary witnesses of a time when Augsburg was a big player in the textile industry and it is placed vis-a-vis the »tim«.

In the context of an artist intervention for the fifth anniversary of the museum we created an audiovisual installation for this building.

The performance show takes about 10 minutes and is divided into two very opposed parts:
The first part interpretes aspects of the production process, is black and white and pretty noisy. It is controlled in realtime by an original punch card that normally is used to weave a towel with the lettering »Made in Augsburg« on a loom.
The second part is colorful, enjoyable and with a very contemporary style even though the footage are patterns of cloth from 1806 to 1988 which we digitalized for the project.

For the sounddesign we use samples of original weaving machines and analog synthesizers.

The artwork tries to illustrate the schizophrenia of the industry that is still pervasive although far away for most of us.

Die textile Mode spielte schon immer eine große Rolle in der Geschichte der Menschheit. Trotzdem haben sich die Bedingungen der verarbeitenden Industrie über die Jahre immer mehr verschlechtert:
Schweiß, Blut, Staub, Lärm, Chemie, Energie und viele weitere Rohstoffe werden in unvorstellbaren Mengen verbraucht.

Ein, im Volksmund »Basilika« genanntes, verlassenes Gebäude direkt gegenüber des »tim« ist ein letzter, noch nicht von der Gentrifizierung eroberter, Zeitzeuge aus einer Epoche in der Augsburg zu den »Big Playern« der Textilindustrie zählte.

Im Rahmen einer Intervention von Künstlern zum fünfjährigen Bestehen des Museums haben wir eine audiovisuelle Installation für diesen Leerstand entwickelt.

Die Inszenierung dauert etwa 10 Minuten und besteht aus zwei thematisch diametralen Teilen:
Der Erste ist eine freie Interpretation des Produktionsprozesses in der Weberei, schwarzweiss gehalten und sehr laut. Dieser Teil wird von einer Lochkarte angetrieben, die normalerweise dafür benutzt wird, den Code eines Handtuches mit der Aufschrift »Made in Augsburg« auf die Webmaschine zu übertragen.
Der Zweite Teil basiert auf zahlreichen Stoffmustern aus den Jahren von 1806 bis 1988, die wir für das Projekt digitalisiert haben. Er ist sehr farbenfroh und spricht, trotz des historischen Ursprungs seines Ausgangsmaterials eine sehr zeitgenössische Bildsprache.

Auf der akustischen Seite wurden Samples von originalen Webstühlen und analoge Synthesizer verwendet.

Die Arbeit versucht die beiden Gesichter einer Branche zu visualisieren, von der wir heute fast nur noch die schöne Seite kennen.

This video is a short selection of content that was created for a The Temple stage in The Common at Glastonbury Festival 2015 following a briefed Aztec/Mayan theme.

The stage was projection mapped from all angles (360 degree), including upper and lower wall panels, roof overhang, stairs, entrances and the main performing stage area.

I was supplied with a 3D model of the constructed stage to work with from which a UV map was made in Cinema4D so motion graphics could be applied within After Effects. Preview of the 3D model in real time was done using the Element 3D plug-in.

The created content has been made to loop so can be used properly for VJ'ing. There is also a variety of different lengths of video. Most of the content is black and white so that colours can be applied within the chosen performance application. In this case Avolites Ai software was used. The content has also been designed so content can be used on its own, or layered with different blend modes or effects.

Ils sont venus tout droit de São Paulo illuminer les rues et ruelles de Luxembourg-Ville par leurs chimères multicolores et messages 100% positifs. VJ Suave, ce sont Ygor Marotta et Ceci Soloaga qui en 2010 ont décidé d’unir leur amour de la technologie et de l’art pour faire du graffiti digital. Vous l’aurez compris : aucunes évaporations de toxines chimiques qui donnent le tournis, aucune trace de peinture après leur passage. Pas de pollution non plus, puisque le duo parcourt la ville sur son suaveciclo – un vélo monté d’un dispositif de projection à l’avant.

VJ Suave partira de la Place Léon XIII à Bonnevoie (la place devant l’église catholique) pour explorer les rues de Bonnevoie et projeter ses dessins poétiques et slogans – dont une partie a été réalisée lors d’ateliers avec des foyers scolaires et écoles primaires du quartier – sur les murs des bâtiments. Les habitants et autres curieux sont invités à accompagner le duo jusqu’à l’arrivée et le final aux Rotondes.

Renders were made in Maya. Used OSM data to get the 3D buildings from Paris.
All the loops from the buildings were tracked with Mocha.

Mini tutorial de Quartz Composer mostrando como podemos asignar el tamaño correcto a una imagen usando el patch Sprite. El patch Billboard nos ofrece la posibilidad de asignar una de las medidas (alto o ancho) automaticamente, en cambio el patch Sprite no. Debemos poner las 2 medidas nosotros. Usando un patch Image Dimensions y un patch Math podemos obtener las 2 medidas, en el tutorial os muestro cómo.

Quartz Composer mini tutorial showing how we can allocate the correct size to an image using the Sprite patch. Billboard patch offers the possibility of assigning one of the measures (height or width) automatically, however the Sprite patch no. We must put the 2 measures. Using an Image Dimensions patch and a Math patch, we can get the 2 measurements... in the tutorial I show you how.
