As a child, I used to lay on my top bunk bed and wonder if I was the only human in a giant alien research experiment designed to test how a human responds to different kinds of stimulation.

In this collaboration between VJ Carrie Gates and breakcore producer Venetian Snares, “Abducted for Life” imagines a thought that would keep any child up late at night: what would it be like to be trapped in an alien research experiment? An orb-like membrane, representing a human’s physical response to varied stimuli, rapidly cycles through a feedback loop of the visceral and somatic. Gates’s 3D audio responsive visual glitch processing dynamically reacts to Venetian Snares’ intricately programmed rhythms, suggesting a survival of the fittest mutability at the core of this sci-fi nightmare.
