Das Genius Loci Weimar Festival findet vom 27. - 29. November 2020 statt!

In diesem außergewöhnlichen Jahr rückt das Genius Loci Weimar Festival erstmals von seinem Sommertermin in die Herbstmonate und wird vom 27. bis zum 29. November 2020 stattfinden. Bereits zum 9. Mal bringen Videokünstler*innen die historischen Fassaden Weimars zum Leuchten: Neben den drei Hauptlocations Marstall, Goethe- und Schiller-Archiv und Altenburg, an deren Fassaden die Gewinnerbeiträge aus dem diejährigen Wettbewerb uraufgeführt werden, wird die Festivalstrecke mit weiteren Lichtinstallationen und Side Acts bespielt.

In this extraordinary year, the Genius Loci Weimar Festival moves from its usual summer date to the autumn months and will take place from 27 to 29 November 2020. Already for the 9th time, video artists will bring the historical facades of Weimar to light: Besides the three main locations Marstall, Goethe- and Schiller-Archiv and Altenburg, on whose facades the winning entries from this year's competition will be premiered, the festival route will be filled with further light installations and side acts again.

Das Festival

Genius Loci Weimar ist ein jährlich stattfindendes Festival für ortsspezifisch entwickelte audiovisuelle Kunst, insbesondere Fassaden-, Raum- und Objektprojektionen. Das Festival verbindet den historischen Geist Weimars und die zeitgenössische Technik des Videomappings, eine Projektionstechnik, welche das Objekt in die Bildgestaltung miteinbezieht und so unbewegten Objekten vielschichtige Dimensionen verleiht und audiovisuelle Erzählungen erschafft.

Durch den international ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerb bietet das Genius Loci Weimar Festival eine Bestandsaufnahme aktueller Videomapping-Produktionen weltweit. Als Treffpunkt der internationalen Videomapping-Szene lockt das Festival Kulturinteressierte und Fachpublikum aus den Bereichen Architektur, Medienkunst, Design, Performing Arts und Bildende Künste nach Weimar.

Genius Loci Weimar findet in Kooperation mit der Festivalorganisation MXPerience gUG statt. Das Festival wird darüber hinaus unterstützt vom Thüringer Ministeriums für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft, der Stadt Weimar, der Sparkasse Mittelthüringen, der Weimarer Wohnstätte GmbH, dem Best Western Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof, Logando sowie rebeam. 

  

The Festival

Genius Loci Weimar is an annual festival for site-specific audiovisual art, especially façade, space and object projections. The festival combines the historical spirit of Weimar and the contemporary technique of video mapping, a projection technique that incorporates the object into the image design, giving objects multi-layered dimensions and audiovisual narratives.

Through the international competition, the Genius Loci Weimar Festival offers an inventory of current video mapping productions worldwide. As a meeting place for the international video mapping scene, the festival attracts culturally interested audiences from the fields of architecture, media art, design, performing arts and fine arts to Weimar.

Genius Loci Weimar takes place in cooperation with the festival organisation MXPerience gUG. The festival is also supported by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, the City of Weimar, the Sparkasse Central Thuringia, the Weimarer Wohnstätte GmbH, the Best Western Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof, Logando and rebeam.
