Poledance + Datamosh Experiment from Hfour on Vimeo.
I used some footage from my friend Lu's poledance show last year in Tokyo to experiment with datamoshing. I did it the hard way, by encoding each segment with only a first i-frame (keyframe), and then proceeded to remove them too with a different piece of software. I learned about some technicalities of encoding with h264 and avi file formats, which may end up being useful some time in the future.

Apparently there's an easy way, an now that I 'understand the principle, I'll try it in AfterEffects.

Learn how to Datamosh all by yourself! All it takes is a couple programs, a couple hours, and a couple tabs of acid.
The necessary programs (FFmpegX and Avidemux) are both included in the convenient ONE-STOP DATAMOSH KIT, which can be found at:

Also included in the ONE-STOP DATAMOSH KIT are our preferred presets for FFmpegX, and several components needed to install the program.
NOTE TO PC USERS: Instead of FFmpegX, you can use VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org). I've never used it, but I hear it's the bee's knees!

Ausgangspunkt dieser Installation ist eine ständige Auseinandersetzung mit Musik und Video.
Der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit ist der Versuch Rhythmik und Arhythmik von Musik und Video live zu untersuchen und den perfekten Moment, die perfekt Harmonie zu finden. Die Installation Minimal Pixel funktioniert zu verschiedenen Musikstielen. Ausgangspunkt ist die Clubmusik mit ihrem mächtigen Vierviertel Bass. Ebenso kann aber auch klassische Musik mit ganz anderen Rhythmen und Dynamiken visualisiert werden.
Die Installation Minimal Pixel besitzt zwei Zeitliche Ebenen. Eine Ebene funktioniert unmittelbar, die andere bei längerer oder zeitlich versetzter Betrachtung des Videobildes. Als Grundobjekte wurden Kugeln, Flächen und Zylinder geformt, die wiederum aus Pixeln bestehen. Während sich die Grundobjekte sehr langsam drehen, verformen sich die Pixel ständig in einem schnelleren Takt. Minimal Pixel gibt es als reine vier Stündige Installation und Live generiert.

NODE10 - Forum For Digital Arts" will take place between the 15th and 20th of November with an extensive festival program consisting of exhibitions, symposium and workshops at the Frankfurter Kunstverein.
The purpose of the inter-media forum is to facilitate the cross-border exchange between interactive media, digital art and generative design. The focus of this year’s event will be the investigation of cultural consequences of a post-industrial technological society. The exhibition "abstract abstract - the systematized world" will serve, within this context, to deepen the discourse on technology and society.
The selected works of art exhibited under the heading ‘abstract Abstract’ aim to decipher the systems of abstractions enmeshed in our Lebenswelt, such as, for instance, the use of digital image creation within the full creative scope of software technology.
In lectures followed by symposia, international artists, cultural workers and technologists will grapple with current and fundamental tensions between art, technology and society - and with the related issues. The vvvv group provides a comprehensive program of professional and elementary level workshops for a wide range of users. In the workshops, specific hardware and software solutions, as well as new ideas and concepts for media installations, will be presented and discussed.
The declared intention of NODE e.V. i.G. is to foster digital culture in art, society, science and research. The association includes members of the vvvv developer and user community. VVVV is a software project that employs graphical programming language to media installations as serves the purposes of a variety of designers, artists and agencies. CoGe Beta 3 development state

Development of CoGe Beta 3 is going good, most of the planned improvements and fixes are done, but some bugs still present. I need some more time to finish the job, but i’m sure i can release it in June, 2010. I’ll do a workshop with a preview release of Beta 3 this week during Visual Berlin Festival, and now, i drop some lines about the improvements and fixes wherewith i’m done – so read what CoGe willlove in the release:

CoGe loves performace and stability!

The under development – and still buggy – version of Beta 3 seems to more stable than the last released Beta 2. The rendering methods updated as well as the most of the classes, in my tests Beta 3 uses ~25-30% less system resource and gives more FPS then Beta 2.

CoGe loves anti-aliasing!

The rendering pipelinedid updated – thanks for the help, vade! - to automatically use multi-sample anti-aliasing on supported graphics cards – as far i know only the GMA cards not supports this feature – which produces lovely-looking edges. The update fixes a depth-buffer issue as well.

CoGe loves custom Control modules!

As a big update, each custom Control modules has a showable rendering window – with event forwarding to the control composition – which can extremely usefull in many cases. See the example on the picture – the control module renders the audio spectrum, and we can select the band want we deal with interactively – using Quartz Composers Interaction feature.

CoGe loves OSC!

With version Beta 3 CoGe will be able to handle OSC messages just like Midi. This means you can control each elements from built-in buttons to modul’s sliders from any OSC capable application and/or with your favorite OSC app on iPhone or iPad – or from any other OSC capable device.

CoGe loves Movie Recording!

As an experimental function in the upcoming Beta 3 CoGe has a movie recording feature. Actually, this needs more work to make it better because realtime movie recording during the gig will screw up your FPS – but basically works.

CoGe loves Colors!

Not the most important feuture, but if you don’t like CoGe’s default pinky highlight colors, now you have the chance to choose an other lovely highlight color.

CoGe loves bubbles!

Yeah, with the bubbles you can easily view your current Midi/OSC/Key bindings on UI widgets, which can very usefull – and as always, looks good

CoGe loves many more things too!

And there are many new features and improvements, some of them are under development, and some of them finished: now the Preview window has the CoGe-style as Synth windows, built-in auto-resize feature could be disabled which can be praticular in many cases, and CoGe can send and receive BPM from OSC!
