A SUPER8.HU Európa egyik legnagyobb online kutatható archívuma mintegy 2000 órányi tartalommal. Az egyedülállóan gazdag gyűjtemény az 1930 és 1990 közötti hat évtized vizuális ujjlenyomata, olyan filmarchívum, amely hitelesen mutatja be, hogyan nézett ki a világ a digitális korszak előtt. Resolume Kraak & Smaak VJ Clip Design Competition

" Kraak & Smaak (meaning 'crunchy and tasty' in Dutch) are a producers trio from the Netherlands and are one of Hollands major dance music exports touring the world with their LIVE and DJ / VJ set-up. They have played at Festivals like Glastonbury, Bestival, Big Chill and Coachella and headlined superclubs like Ministry of Sound. They have released two albums so far, 'Boogie Angst' and 'Plastic People'. The latter album included their biggest single to date, 'Squeeze Me'. You can check out the video for that track below.

Design Brief
Modern Disco, Retro Funk! Be inspired by the music of Kraak & Smaak. For more musical references you can check their website kraaksmaak.com or YouTube.
Create 3 of your best, bespoke VJ loops that fit the Kraak & Smaak music style.
Upload the clips to YouTube or Vimeo tag with "kraakvj". Use the form below to enter the competition. Each video loop should be at least 5 seconds, maximum 30 seconds.
At least 1 of your 3 loops should include a text or logo animation. A fesztivál a mai napon indul és egy hétig tart, remek programokkal, és ezúttal magyar vonatkozásban is tartogat két igen érdekes workshopot: Pixelnoizz 3 napos Quartz Composer workshopját illetve Lucy Benson CoGe workshopját. Utóbbi érdekessége, hogy a hamarosan megjelenő beta2 változat kerül bemutatásra, így a fesztivál látógatói az elsők közt próbálhatják ki a szoftver új funkciót.

fugWrapperGL: FreeFrame 1.0 plugin-ek FreeFrameGL 1.5 környezetben

" Vannak arcok/közösségek, akik elhivatottsága és munkája nyomán ezrek kapnak új lehetőségeket. A Bigfug új fugWrapperGL plugin-je a legújabb kedvenc: lehetőséget nyújt a VJ-knek a régi klasszikus FreeFrame (1.0) effektek futtatására FreeFrameGL (1.5) környezetben, az utóbbi minden áldásos előnyével – és itt főképp a szuper teljesítmény növekedésre gondolok.
A plugin még alpha fázisban van, ezért ne csodálkozz, ha néha fagyásokba vagy egyéb fura dolgokba futsz bele, javaslom, hogy ne élőben használd, hanem vedd fel a kimenetet, és azt mix-eld össze más layer-ekkel.
A hardcore arcoknak még jó hír, hogy szintén elérhető a Bigfug FreeFrameGL Streaming plugin, amellyel videó osztható meg FFGL alkalmazások között. A programozók pedig örülhetnek a fugCompilerGL-nek, mellyel saját FFGL plugin-ek készíthetők (viszonylag) egyszerűen.

Quartz Composer alapozó workshop

" Március 6-án szombaton, délután 2 órától Quartz Composer alapozó workshopot tartunk a VJ Centrumban, Bios és .lov. prezentálásában.
A Quartz Composer egy ingyenes, node-alapú vizuális programozási nyelv OSX platformra. A most szombati workshop alkalmával szó lesz a QC történetőrél, hogy miért is jó ez a technológia, és hogy mire használhatjuk. Megismerkedünk a szoftver alapvető tulajdonságaival, a kompozíció készítés alapjaival, szóval, ez egy alapozó kurzus lesz, de ha már ismered, használod az alkalmazást, akkor is hasznos lehet.
A Quartz Composer 4-et, azaz a Snow Leopard-os verziót fogjuk használni, ha régebbi rendszered van az sem gond, de pár bemutatott dolog nem fog működni.
Kérünk mindenkit akit érdekel a dolog, a szombati workshop előtt telepítse fel az XCode Developer Tools a rendszerére, ugyanis a QC ennek a csomagnak a része.

Quartz Composer felhívás!

" Ali Demirel, a Contakt event-ek VJ-je és Richie Hawtin, az M-nus label feje új Quartz Composer kompozíciókat keresnek, melyeket Hawtin DJ-Set-ek és Contakt rendezvények alatt használnának. A díjazás egyenlőre ködös, ami biztos hogy a készítők neve fel lenne tüntetve a show folyamán, de a beérkezett munkák minőségének függvényében bármi megtörténhet...
A szabályok a következők:
- Quartz Composer 4.0 (Snow Leopard) alatt qtz-k kellenek
- az élő interakció miatt sok változtatható paraméter kell
- 2:1-es méretarányú LED screenekre, kell tervezni, maximum 800x400-as felbontással
- a stílusra nincs semmi feltétel, de passzolnia kell a megszokott M-nus/Hawtin stílusba
- a file nem lehet nagyobb 1mb-nál, és e-mailben kell elküldeni a quartzcomposer@richiehawtin.com címre, a tárgyban pedig a Quartz Composer Submission megjelölni
- videó file-ok nem kellenek, de ha be akarod mutatni a qtz-t zenével, akkor töltsd fel Vimeo-ra és küld el a linket - de a qtz-t is!
- Hawtin és Ali "zsűrízi" a beküldött munkákat, a kiválasztottakat e-mailben értesítik.

Mouse VJ controller? - Ilyen lehet a Magic Mouse utódja

" Az Egyesült Államok Szabadalmi Hivatala bejegyzett egy szabadalmat, ami az Apple Magic Mouse-ának jövőjére utalhat. A leírás három új érzékelőt és egy hármas-tengelyű giroszkópot tartalmaz, ami érzékeli a forgatást, az előre-hátra és oldalra döntést. Az első a vízszintes, a második a függőleges gördítéssel lenne egyenlő. A harmadikkal például képeket lehetne elforgatni. (Lásd a fenti képet!) Továbbá az egér alja a szabadalom szerint domború lenne, hogy ezeket a dőltéseket könnyebben lehessen megejteni.

" Apple Wants the Magic Mouse to Rock'n Roll!
On February 18, 2010, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that reveals one of the next possible chapters for Apple's Magic Mouse. Apple introduced the world's first Multi-Touch Mouse this past October. The Magic Mouse features a seamless touch-sensitive enclosure that allows it to be a single or multi-button mouse with advanced gesture support. Using intuitive gestures, users can easily scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. In January of this year, we were able to see the first installation of technologies related to advancing the Magic Mouse and today, Apple sheds more light on the advances that they're considering. Today's patent focuses on introducing a "rotatable mouse" using new sensors and a triple-axes gyroscope that detects the roll, pitch, and yaw of the mouse. That translates in allowing the user to tilt the mouse one way to cause a horizontal scroll and another way to cause a vertical scroll and yet another to tilt a graphic as shown above. The other change that you'll notice in the graphic above is that the bottom of the mouse is described in terms of it having a convex bottom design so as to make it easier to cause scrolling and other events by simply rocking or rolling the mouse. It's so simple, that it's brilliant.
Patent Overview
Examples of the invention as described herein allow for additional movement of a mouse adapted to operate on a support surface. The examples are described herein primarily in the context of having a rotatable mouse situated on the support surface where a rotation of the mouse relative to a pivot point translates into a particular event.
As an example, such a mouse has a bottom surface with a convex shape. This convex shape allows the mouse to be rotatable on the support surface. This mouse includes a surface tracking sensor that detects translational movement of the mouse along the support surface. Additionally included are one or more orientation sensors that detect the rotational movement of the mouse.
A rotation of the mouse is used for moving content displayed on a processing system, such as a computer. Tegnap bemutatta az Apple a nagy várakozással titkolt, de sokaknak (kreatív profiknak) - egyenlőre - csalódást keltő iPad-et.
De van remény, gondoljatok bele!

Már iPhone-ra is léteztek midi és OSC kontroller alkalmazások, amiket több-kevesebb sikerrel próbálgattun-alkalmaztunk vizuális programokhoz. Most ezek az iPad nagyobb érintőkijelzőjén könnyebben működtethetők és ha a fejlesztők már erre a platformra fejleszthetnek (tegnaptól), akkor hamarosan egy Lemur szintű touchsreen VJ kontrollerünk lehet a Lemur árának töredékéért.
Szerintem ezért (is) érdemes figyelni az iPad jövőjét...

A Vj Centrum 2009. december 29-én tart bemutatkozó bulit a Tűzraktérben, ahol a vendégek elképesztő vj-shownak lehetnek szemtanúi, mely egyrészt a szórakozóhely addigra elkészülő tölcsérfedésére történő multiprojektoros panorámavetítésre, másrészt és elsősorban a Vj Centrum által megívott vj-k és dj-k összehangolt előadására épül. VJ CENTRUM
A VJ Centrum egy stúdió, mely Magyarország első vj műhelyeként működik. Olyan központi helyként funkcionál, ahol workshopokat, előadásokat, kerekasztal beszélgetéseket, technikai bemutatókat szervezünk. Ezen felül teret szolgáltat kreatív, egyedi látásmóddal rendelkező „médiaművészek”, alkotócsoportok bemutatkozására, egyéni projektek átbeszélésére, elemzésére, kivitelezésére és vj oktatásra.
Ideális helyszín a Tűzraktér lett (Budapesten, a Hegedű utca 3. szám alatt), mivel ott rengeteg technikai feltétel adott, valamint számos párhuzamosan működő alkotói csoporttal együttműködve multidiszciplináris kísérleti megoldások kipróbálására, fejlesztésére is lehetőség nyílik.
Előzmények
Pár évvel ezelőtt - úgy 2000 környékén - egyre több partyban bukkantak fel a vetítésért felelős visual- v. video-jockey-k hazánkban is. Azóta nagy teret hódított magának ez a műfaj, de a elektronikus zenei kultúrával kapcsolatos fórumok nem adnak elegendő információt a témában. Ezért gondoltuk - több csapat, akik ebben a műfajban, vagy különböző határterületein ténykednek - hogy összehozunk dinamikus munkára képes szakmai szövetséget és egyben tudástárat, melyben bárki kedvére tájékozódhat, nézelődhet, hozzászólhat, vitatkozhat és ötletelhet. Összegyűjtöttük, amit találtunk és írtuk, amit gondoltunk. A kezdeményezés mára nemcsak a virtuális térben, hanem a valós underground médiaszíntéren is jelen van.

Akai Does Mini MIDI Keyboard, Pads, a la Korg nano

Az Akai megirigyelte a Korg Nano széria sikerét és kihozta a saját változatát. Eddig ennyit lehet róla tudni:

" Korg’s nano series has been a huge hit. Now it’s Akai’s turn, with their own mini USB pad and keyboard controllers. (Note: given lengthy product turnaround in this industry, these may actually have been designed before the nano – but that’s not as important, ultimately, as which models you like.) The Akai assumes you want something that’s a bit bulkier than the Korg nano line – with, presumably, a payoff in playability.
MusicRadar gets the scoop on the mini models to be announced at Summer NAMM. (Really? People still go to that?) Our friend Ben Rogerson says Akai tells them these are expected Q3 of this year – just in time for back to school. Matrixsynth posted the full press release though we do expect official details Friday.
Update: Akai tells CDM they will make the official announcement on Friday, by which time we’ll have more details to share.
The LPK25 keyboard looks like the biggest competitor here. Korg’s competing nanoKEY sacrifices quite a bit of playability to fit into an ultra-compact space, with an action that — while, incredibly, velocity-sensitive — feels like a laptop keyboard. The LPK25 has some sort of synth action. That ups the weight to “under a pound,” and it remains to be seen whether Akai will match Korg’s unbelievable US$60 street price. But for actually playing a keyboard, the LPK looks like it could be the one to beat – while still fitting on a coach airplane seat tray along with your netbook. And it’s got an arpeggiator, too, not that you really need one with something that only works with software.
The LPD8 is interesting, too, with 8 pads and 8 knobs. But here, to me the Korg may continue to reign supreme. I don’t see scene controls on the Akai LPD8, for one. (I thought the Akai didn’t have scenes, but it looks like program changes 1-4 are that — albeit minus those handy LEDs on the Korg.) Korg’s ultra-light pads — unlike the keyboard — are eminently playable, and feel fantastic. And while the Akai knobs are nice, I imagine I’ll still prefer the hold/flam/roll buttons and X/Y trackpad controller on the Korg. Korg also has some terrific software editing functions. Of course, some people would rather have knobs. That’s why choice is good.
That said, the LPK25 promises to fill a niche I’ve been waiting for someone to fill — a tiny keyboard you can throw in your backpack for programming tunes in a coffee shop.

I was asked to develop the ’story’ further from the original test (you can see on this page), and got some visual ideas from looking through photos from the original album shoot. I got three extra visual ideas from this - single cells, an empty nest, trails of red berries.
