On reprend notre rythme de croisière dès demain, mercredi 16 mai avec l'invasion des Tagtool! On continue sur notre lancée avec une soirée muy muy caliente au Zoo et on n'oublie pas que le Mapping ce sont aussi des workshops pour vous faire découvrir l'univers de nos artistes et vous initier à leurs techniques.
Mapping Festival, week one, check! Have you recovered from that first weekend? Did you rest enough at the beginning of the week?
We take our stride tomorrow, Wednesday, May 16th with the invasion of Tagtool! We continue at the same rythm with a muy muy caliente evening at the Zoo and we do not forget that the Mapping also means workshops for you to discover the universe of our artists and introduce you to their techniques.

Workshops & Performances //Fonderie Kugler // 16-18 mai
La communauté Tagtool investit l’espace de La Fonderie Kugler pour deux jours d’ateliers, de jam sessions, de performances et de fêtes. Venez découvrir la projection de peinture, vous salir les mains lors de l’un des ateliers, ou simplement profiter du spectacle. Nous avons veillé à inviter d’excellents musiciens, de sorte à ce que vos oreilles ne jalousent pas vos yeux. Les Tagtoolistas de tous niveaux sont invités à apporter leurs instruments maison et prendre part à des jam-sessions. Pour cette occasion spéciale, OMA International est fier de vous présenter un nouveau logiciel multi joueurs pour iPad. Les concepteurs et les développeurs seront là pour présenter leur point de vue sur l’avenir de la peinture par projection. Dieter Puntigam et ses amis vont transformer une partie de l’espace de La Fonderie en une sculpture en trois dimensions comme une toile de fond pour les sessions Tagtool. L’installation Cell City sera présente toute la durée du workshop.
The Tagtool community takes over the space of La Fonderie for three days of workshops, jam sessions, performances and celebration. Come and find out about projection painting, get your hands dirty at one of the workshops, or simply enjoy the show. We made sure to invite an excellent line-up of musicians, so the ears won’t be jealous of the eyes. Tagtoolistas of all skill levels are welcome to bring their homebread instruments and take part in the jam sessions. For this special occasion, OMA InternationalisproudtointroduceanewmultiplayerTagtool software for iPad.The designers and developers will be there to present their take on the future of projection painting. Dieter Puntigam and friends will transform part of the space of La Fonderie into a three-dimensional sculpture as a canvas for Tagtool sessions. Cell City installation will be present through-out the workshop.

Présentation du workshop sur la téléprésence artistique

En marge de son projet DIEU EST UN DJ insanë vous accueille au Théâtre de l'Usine pour un workshop sur la téléprésence artistique. La téléprésence (littéralement, avoir l'impression d'être ailleurs) est un moyen de communication qui cherche à dépasser les barrières de la distance et de la différence pour mettre savoirs et expériences en commun. Le workshop se donne en simultané à Genève et à la Société des arts technologiques de Montréal. Ensemble nous tentons d'expérimenter la création à distance au delà de nos espaces géographiques respectifs. Le workshop fait appel à toute personne ayant une pratique artistique professionnelle, que cela soit dans la création numérique, dans la performance ou dans tout autre discipline de l'image, du mouvement et du son.
Une représentation publique à l'issue du workshop aura lieu le jeudi 17 mai à 23h au Théâtre de l'Usine.
In addition to its project DIEU EST UN DJ, insanë welcomes in the Théâtre de l'Usine for a workshop on artistic telepresence. Telepresence (literally meaning "having the feeling of being elsewhere") is a means of communication that seeks to transcend the barriers of distance and difference in order to out together knowledge and experiences. The workshop is broadcasted simultaneously in Geneva and the Société des arts technologiques in Montreal. Together we try to experiment with remote creation beyond our respective geographical areas. The workshop is open to anyone with a professional arts practice, whether in digital creation, in performance or in any other area related to image, movement and sound.
A presentation at the end of the workshop will be held on Thursday, May 17th at 23h at the Théâtre de l'Usine.

Une soirée chaleur en plein Mapping! Veille du jeudi de l’Ascencion (férié !) sortez les minis shorts et les marcels et venez vous trémousser, les artistes de la soirée Tropical y Visual ne pourront pas vous laisser statique.
Un line up caliente aux couleurs latino-américaines avec el señor de la nueva cumbia qui fait valser machines et accordéons, j’ai nommé El Hijo de la Cumbia! Ce DJ-producteur, originaire de Buenos Aires, se définit comme le mad professor argentin. Il partage avec le roi du dub jamaicain le goût de la bidouille digitale. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, la new-cumbia est un mélange de dub, hip-hop et dance hall, mais lui se définit comme « cumbia new roots » ! Si on a parlé de caliente c’est qu’il y a évidemment aussi des sons brésiliens avec Tempo moderno, aka Discotecario Doca & Actaruss1, pour un set fiévreux aux sonorités électro favela!
Si on parle de Tropical y Visual c’est que vous allez également avoir chaud aux yeux!
An evening of full heat at the Mapping Festival! The night before the Thursday of the Ascension (a holiday!) put on your shorts, minis and tank tops and come move you body on the dance-floor. The artists of the Tropical y Visual party will not leave you static.
A caliente line up with the colors of Latin America with the señor of the nueva cumbia making machines and accordions waltz together, El Hijo de la Cumbia! This DJ-producer, originally from Buenos Aires, is defined as the mad professor of Argentina. He shares with the king of Jamaican dub a taste for digital hack. For those unfamiliar with this style, the new-cumbia is a mixture of dub, hip-hop and dance hall, but is also defined as "cumbia new roots"! If we talked about caliente it is also because of the Brazilian sounds of Tempo Moderno, aka Discotecario Actaruss1 & Doca, for a feverish-sounding electro favela set!
A tropical and visual party musically colored for both the eyes and the ears!

- Qu'est-ce que le Mapping Festival pour toi?
Je connais le festival depuis ses débuts. Il ya deux ans, j'ai participé à la résidence d'artistes Meta-Mapping avec quelques-uns de mes collègues du projet Tagtool. On a passé un bon moment et j'ai apprécié l'esprit de l'équipe du Mapping: sans prétention, underground tout en étant professionnel, passionné par la culture de la projection. Ca m'a donné envie de revenir.
- Que vas-tu y présenter?
Ce sera la première mondiale de notre nouvelle application pour la projection de peinture animée, Tagtool Touch. C'est le résultat de plusieurs années de travail, et nous pensons que nous avons trouvé une nouvelle façon plus intuitive de travailler avec des visuels qui, nous l'espérons, continuera de croître et d'évoluer dans les années à venir. Le public de nos ateliers et spectacles aura droit à une avant-première exclusive puisque la version finale ne sera publiée qu'en été. Nous serons tous des bêta-testeurs à Genève!
En dehors de tout cela, nous avons invité quelques-uns des artistes les plus compétents de la communauté Tagtool, qui travaillent avec le matériel Tagtool do-it-yourself. Nous espérons créer une atmosphère ouverte et créative au cours de nos trois jours à la Fonderie Kugler, pleine de possibilités de collaboration et de surprises.
- Un coup de coeur dans la programmation 2012?
J'aime le travail de 1024 architecture, et Steve Buchanan sera également sur la scène du festival (au fait, il sera notre invité spécial lors de nos sessions Tagtool Anthology). Je dois dire que j'ai été plongé dans le développement de logiciels ces derniers temps, donc je suis sûr que j'ai raté d'autres choses passionnantes. Notre calendrier est serré, mais j'espère pouvoir assister à quelques performances. Je me réjouis de ces moments d'échange et d'inspiration.
- What is the Mapping Festival for you?
I knew about the festival since the beginning. Two years ago I took part in the Meta-Mapping artist residency together with some of my colleagues from the Tagtool project. It was a good time and I appreciated the spirit of the Mapping crew: unpretentious, underground yet professional, passionate about projection culture. It made me wanna come back.
- What are you going to present?
It will be the world premiere of our new app for animated projection painting, Tagtool Touch. It's the result of several years of work, and we think we found a new, more intuitive way of working with visuals that hopefully will grow and evolve in the coming years. Visitors at our workshops and performances will get an exclusive preview - the final version will only be released in summer. We will all be Beta-testers in Geneva!
Apart from all that, we have invited some of the most proficient artists from the existing Tagtool community, who are working with the existing do-it-yourself hardware Tagtool. We hope to have an open, creative atmosphere during our three days at the Fonderie Kugler, full of opportunities for collaborations and surprises.
