XTRAVAGANZA draws on the history of multi-media entertainment, ranging from the film exhibitions of the 1910s to the Busby Berkeley dance numbers of the 1930's. XTRAVAGANZA mixes these early forms with current spectacular musical entertainment, including trip-hop music and video. XTRAVAGANZA samples fragments of the theatrical past through the language of contemporary DJ and VJ culture.

In October-November 2000, XTRAVAGANZA was presented at Kaaitheater, Brussels; the Rotterdam Schouwburg; Le Maillon, Strasbourg; Mousonturm, Frankfurt; Le Volcan, Le Havre.

In 2001, it was shown at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and was presented by Performing Arts Chicago at the Athenaeum Theater, Chicago. In Spring 2002, XTRAVAGANZA had a three-week run at St. Ann's Warehouse.

Wir suchen nach Ideen und Konzepten zur Realisierung von Wegeinstallationen oder Performances während unseres Festivals vom 09.-11. August 2019.

Du bist auf der Suche nach einer Plattform für dein Projekt im Bereich Multimedia, Performance, Lichtkunst oder Ähnlichem?
In einem abendlichen Rundgang können die Besucher alle Festival-Stationen ab 21:15 bis 00:15 besuchen. Die Stationen vernetzen die ganze Festivalroute und zeigen, wo es lang geht.

EURE IDEEN FÜR DIE FESTIVALROUTE 2019

Zwischen den Spielorten DNT, mon ami und neues Bauhaus-Museum soll eine entsprechende Wegeleitung die Festivalroute vorgeben. Deine Installation/Performance kann an folgenden Orten realisiert werden: Künstlergarten, Wielandstraße, Goetheplatz, Kunsthalle Harry Graf Kessler, im Hinterhof des mon ami, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße und UNESCO-Platz.

Die Rahmenbedingungen für deine Einreichung: 

    • Das Projekt muss wetterfest sein
    • Die Projektdauer schließt das gesamte Wochenende vom 09.-11. August ein
    • Das Projekt muss täglich in den Spielzeiten 21- 00.15h eingesetzt werden
    • Die Wegeleitung muss mit vielen Menschen in den Straßen funktionieren
    • Ein kleines Budget für Realisierung ist vorhanden; Unterkunft wird bezahlt

Call for submissions for sidewalk acts and performances

We are looking for ideas and concepts for the realization of sidewalk acts, installations or performances during our festival from 09-11 August 2019.
Are you looking for a platform for your project in the field of multimedia, performance, light art or similar?

From 21:15 until 00:15 the network of installations and projects connects the entire festival walkway and navigates the visitors in the right direction.

YOUR IDEAS FOR THE FESTIVAL ROUTE 2019

Between this year's locations DNT, mon ami and the new Bauhaus Museum the sidewalk acts will be a guiding point and mark the festival route. Your project can be set at the following locations: Künstlergarten, Wielandstraße, Goetheplatz, Kunsthalle Harry Graf Kessler, in the backyard of mon ami, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße and UNESCO-Platz.

Conditions for your submission: 

    • the project must be weather-resistant
    • the project must be available during the whole weekend from 09-11 August, daily between 21:00 and 00:15
    • the project must take in consideration large amounts of visitors in the streets
    • we offer a small budget for project realization; accommodation can be paid for

Présentation d'une version modifiée du concept ALT:R_NATIV, à l'occasion du Lille VJ Fest 2019, durant la session BYOB organisée par Machine Sauvage au Volume Ouvert.

Cette version invite le spectateur à interagir avec l'espace virtuel à l'aide d'une manette. À l'aide de ce périphérique, celui-ci est capable, au-delà de l'exploration, de prendre contrôle sur l'environnement : il gère l'apparence des modules, leurs vitesses, leurs trajectoires, ainsi que leurs espacements.

Sinopse
O Projeto Representa Corisco está em desenvolvimento desde 2003 e neste período foram realizadas várias intervenções urbanas e vídeo instalações em cidades como Belo Horizonte, São Paulo e Barcelona. Com o objetivo de propor reflexões críticas sobre as relações políticas e sociais nas grandes metrópoles, o projeto trabalha com conceitos da cultura popular e ícones visuais relacionados com o universo do cangaço e um dos seus personagens: Corisco.
O cangaço foi um movimento armado que durou mais de dois séculos (XIX y XX) no nordeste brasileiro e pode ser associado a conceitos como de resistência e crítica a privilégios hereditários presentes na história brasileira. Evocar Corisco e o cangaço é um intento de desenvolver uma ação política dentro do contexto contemporâneo, uma maneira de reinterpretar um passado recente, um universo de poesia e sobrevivência em um cenário desfavorável como o da Caatinga.

El Proyecto nace en 2003 y en estos años hemos desarrollado propuestas desde performances de video a intervenciones urbanas en ciudades como Belo Horizonte, São Paulo y Barcelona. Con el objetivo de proponer reflexiones críticas sobre las relaciones políticas y sociales en las grandes metrópolis, el colectivo trabaja con conceptos relacionados con la cultura popular brasileña e iconos visuales que remiten al universo del “cangaço” y a un de sus personajes: Corisco.
El “cangaço” fue un movimiento armado que duró más de 2 siglos (XVIV y XX) en el nordeste brasileño y nos remete a conceptos como de resistencia y crítica a los valores impuestos por la elite brasileña. En este sentido, evocar a Corisco y a todos los “cangaceros” es rescatar el pasado, rescatar todo su universo complejo de lucha, sobrevivencia y poesía de desiertos tropicales, en un intento de desarrollar una actuación política crítica dentro del contexto urbano contemporáneo.

The Representa Corisco is a project of urban interventions and video prformance created in 2003 and during this period we proposed interventions in cities like Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo, Budapest, Nuremberg and Barcelona.
The project works with concepts of the popular culture, icons related to the visual universe of “cangaço” and one of its characters: Corisco. The cangaço was an armed movement that lasted more than two centuries (XIX and XX) in northeaster of Brazil and can be associated with concepts like resistance and fight against the system of hereditary privileges present in the Brazilian history.
Characteristics of the narrative
The narrative of the project is a result of a bank of images that is being built since 2003 (representacorisco.com) and makes a direct reference to the universe of “cangaço”. All the work is based in the characters and icons developed by the group of visual artists: João Maciel and Ricardo Cançado.

I'm looking for opportunities to enrich journeys' content, add more sequences and perform it live since recording on hdd is worst way to demonstrate live VJ performance. Neljän Tuulen konsertissa Helsingin Malmitalossa 10 toukokuuta 2019 esiintyivät nelijäseninen kansanmusiikkiyhtye Munnaripartio, luomuprogeorkesteri Klava, Hanna Rajakankaan ja Petra Poutanen-Hurmeen muodostama kansanlauluyhtye Duo Hurme, shamaaniviulisti Tuomas Rounakari sekä monen eri heimon ja alkuperäiskansan sanansaattaja Charles Lawrence. Tapahtuman visuaaleista vastasivat VJ Random Doctors - Tuulinen Kaaos, Kosmas ja Noadi, Malmisalin saliäänestä Antti Vanhanen ja valoista Sauli Närhi.
Video on koostettu neljän tunnin mittaisesta konsertista.

Today I went back to AIR for my daily dose in Microdose VR. I tried live streaming through Facebook and OBS today also, but sadly the quality just wasn’t there. Our studio is based out of a farm in rural NC and the one thing we’ve never been able to over come is our internet. So it goes :)

For the tech heads:
So today I changed it up a little and got rid of Resolume so one less piece of software taking up video resources. But since my live stream looked so bad I wasn’t loving OBS, although again it was probably the fault of my internet, and so I switched back to VDMX and recorded the streams straight in that. I had also turned on some mirror fxs with LFO’s though from the live stream and I played with them a little more and that’s what this run is; no second run through applying fxs VJ style, these are just mirror coming on and off on LFOs while I do the MDVR thing. Pretty happy with the result!

I took my run of Tipper's Tethers off the new Jettison Mind Hatch from the other day and mixed in some animated 2d work from the wonderfully creative Micah Buzan. Nothing fancy and still haven't built a full VJ rig out, but I'm piecing one together in the studio. I ditched the old Livid Code Controls and got the iPad going again for this one, I find with so much different software and constantly changing show dynamics of fly ins vs more local shows and EDM one offs vs other things that no controller satisfies me or lasts more than a few shows anymore, so I'm going to go back to something that can hold more info with more labels: the iPad.

Today I surfed gently through VR to the incredibly subtle art of AIR, French minimalist electronica. If I was to sum up their work it would be to simply express thanks for all the artists with the gift of taste as well as skill. This is from le voyage dans le lune; the track Seven Stars. The album in inspired by, and designed to play along with, a trip to the moon, the 1902 French film by George Melies, look it up and you’ll be surprised to recognize it I bet.

For the tech heads: Same workflow it’s been, though not happy with recordings still so going to try OBS in the mix next.
Again the workflow is:
(1) Megatron has 3x 2080ti cards in it ; MDVR is running in VJ mode with the second screen being captured on a macbook pro with a
(2) magewell hdmi capture + . So that’s to record the stream from micro dose.
Tonight that was recorded using VDMX movie recorder.

(3) Then I played that file back through VDMX with a syphon output to resolume. applied fxs in vdmx and mirror fxs in resolume.

Tonight on Microdse Daily we have a lovely treat served up acoustically by @Sunsquabi featuring GRIZ, Pygmy Up it is good sir!
For the tech heads: Tonight’s video was recorded on Megatron but after @thefacesblur tweaked the setting todays in the office with afterburner and fan management etc it performed still on a whole other level than the previous night and I was blown away again! Life how you gonna keep getting better? Note; I had frame rate issues recording on my macbook pro via capture card until I remembered to kill Resolume, so I just had VDMX open and recorded both the first and second recordings in there. Animations were written in GLSL. Show was arranged in Madmapper, and sequenced with Ableton Live via OSC.

Join first light on the first Saturday of every month as they transform this artisan café into a space for performance, experimentation and development that will feature boundary-pushing talent both local and from further afield.

For this second instalment, first light welcomes fast-rising Manchester producer Daniel Ruane for a genre-warping DJ set of leftfield dance, techno and electronica, following live sets from first light resident Wazoo and experimental producer and sound artist Dujat. As ever, the first light DJs will be seeing the night to a close with an eclectic mix of groove-driven electronic music and resident VJ Dee Dixon will be crafting live visuals across the night in reaction to the music played.

his texture looks very similar to the migrain aura, that affects mostly the macula area of the retina. Auras use to preceed migraine, well, I experience many aureas (since 1996) that not always end up in migraine, but can be a handicap when, for example handling a spaceship or driving a truck, just to mention two examples.

Nick Cope - "Scratch made a triumphal return to the ICA in January 2019, the gallery where it was first screened following its nascent beginnings at the Fridge nightclub, Brixton, in 1984. The London Short Film Festival asked Stephen ‘Mal’ Mallinder, founding member of Cabaret Voltaire, to curate an opening night event for the festival All This Scratching is Making Me Itch, dedicated to ‘Scratch aesthetic’ and an ‘excavation of the genre’. Mal asked me to be involved in remixing my old archive as part of a live audio-visual performance with his band Wrangler, and AV artist Dan Conway. With screens arrayed on three walls of the ICA’s large performance theatre and stacks of TV monitors, a programme of original Scratch works from the 1980s, newer work informed by Scratch, and live AV performances by Elsa Hewitt and Sweatmother set the scene for Wrangler’s headlining this opening night celebration."
