This year‘s Public Voting is open! Until 27th of June 2021, all interested people can vote for their favourites from the competition submissions for this year's locations Bastille and Altenburg, whereby the public voting counts as a jury vote. The winning entry will be chosen for each façade, which the artists will premiere at the festival in September 2021. Everyone can take part in the voting at https://www.genius-loci-weimar.org/public-vote_en.html.
The annual theme
The history of Weimar is far broader than its “golden” and “silver” eras. Many a culture war has been fought within the city walls and countless tragic figures have passed through its dwellings and dungeons: In its 10th competition edition, Genius Loci dedicates itself to this dark side of Weimar and will begin the tour at the Bastille Ensemble, a veritable institution of princely power in Weimar. It is also where the young maid and child murderer Johanna Catharina Höhn was most likely incarcerated until her execution by beheading. The tour continues on the south facade of the Baroque Weimar City Castle and onward to the Marstall, the Former ducal stables with its former Gestapo cellars. Then it’s up to the Goethe- and Schiller Archive and finally to the Altenburg, where Franz Liszt hid the young Richard Wagner, who was wanted as a revolutionary, terrorist and subversive after the failed May uprising in Saxony in 1849.
The festival
Genius Loci Weimar is an annual festival for site-specific audiovisual art, especially façade, space and object projections. The festival combines the historical spirit of Weimar and the innovative technique of video mapping, a projection technique that incorporates the object into the image design, giving objects multi-layered dimensions and audiovisual narratives.
Through the international competition, the Genius Loci Weimar Festival offers an inventory of current video mapping productions worldwide and the festival attracts culturally interested audiences from the fields of architecture, media art, design, performing arts and fine arts to Weimar. With 50.000 visitors and more, the festival is one of the highlights of the Weimar Summer.
Genius Loci Weimar takes place in cooperation with the festival organisation MXPerience gUG. The festival is also supported by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, the State Chancellery of Thuringia, the City of Weimar, the Sparkasse Central Thuringia, the Weimarer Wohnstätte GmbH, the Best Western Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof, Epson, Logando and rebeam.

Thanks to Fest director Richard Sowada for inviting us to perform and to Malcolm Turner of the Melbourne International Animation Festival for facilitating the relationships that lead to the performance.

THIS IS NOT A TEST is not a test! During the 2021 Covid lock-down I felt an urge via my craft to once again to reach out to friends at home most likely online on the interweb. This spontaneous live stream via YouTube emerged.
This was an exciting opportunity to experiment with the Metta Machine video feedback contraption, framed against the luscious sonic ambience sourced from Gus Till's album - titled River of Arrow.
I hadn’t performed with this device against ambient music before. Ambience provides a performance looseness and freedom that suits the Metta Machines functionality.
The live YouTube recording was downloaded and taken into Premiere where mix was trimmed and slates added top and tail; an adjustment of levels and saturation to compensate for the light spill was also done. This also accounts for the lorez artefacts that appear, part a compressions aesthetic.
Stay tuned for further broadcasts. Remember, this definitely is not a test!

There is so much more that binds us all together than breaks us apart, and that is why I wrote Bring Together. It is time that we all overcome our differences so we can all live happier lives with brighter futures. I wanted to release this song now in the hope that it might play a small part in reducing our divisions with more emphasis on empathy and compassion.
With the COVID lockdown, I could not create the video I wanted for this song, but I was able to "bring together" footage from all my other released and unreleased videos in a very cool mashup. I hope you enjoy it. Please comment and subscribe.
