Babylon Lounge

Melting Pot (Interactive Dance Installation) @Babylon Lounge (01.03.2010) from NODEBASED on Vimeo.
At Nodebased's first event Melting Pot privileged few interacted with both sound and visuals for two hours. Along with improvised electronic dance music the performance took place at Babylon Lounge. This was a preview performance included in Babylon Audio\Visual Mondays for a future event.
Two projectors were used, one for the dj cabin, other for interaction surface.

" Vannak arcok/közösségek, akik elhivatottsága és munkája nyomán ezrek kapnak új lehetőségeket. A Bigfug új fugWrapperGL plugin-je a legújabb kedvenc: lehetőséget nyújt a VJ-knek a régi klasszikus FreeFrame (1.0) effektek futtatására FreeFrameGL (1.5) környezetben, az utóbbi minden áldásos előnyével – és itt főképp a szuper teljesítmény növekedésre gondolok.
A plugin még alpha fázisban van, ezért ne csodálkozz, ha néha fagyásokba vagy egyéb fura dolgokba futsz bele, javaslom, hogy ne élőben használd, hanem vedd fel a kimenetet, és azt mix-eld össze más layer-ekkel.
A hardcore arcoknak még jó hír, hogy szintén elérhető a Bigfug FreeFrameGL Streaming plugin, amellyel videó osztható meg FFGL alkalmazások között. A programozók pedig örülhetnek a fugCompilerGL-nek, mellyel saját FFGL plugin-ek készíthetők (viszonylag) egyszerűen.

" Mechanical fireflies could help create a new kind of 3-D display, say researchers at MIT.
Standing in for the bioluminescent beetles will be LED-fitted, remotely controlled micro-helicopters that can be choreographed electronically to display shapes and images as they hover in midair. The project, called Flyfire, would use RC helicopters similar to the toys sold at the mall today.
“Each of the helicopters then acts as what we call a smart pixel,” E Roon Kang, the MIT research fellow who is leading the project, told Wired.com. “By controlling their movement, we can have the pixels flying through the air. "

En 1998 Estudia Artes Plásticas en Lima, complementando sus estudios en Londres, para especializarse posteriormente en Artes Mediaticas. Videasta, diseñador gráfico y músico, ha producido diferentes proyectos de videoarte, entre ellos, trabajos comisionados por el Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) y el Centro Fundación Telefónica. También ha realizado videoclips para Auxiliar y otras bandas de la escena local.
Sus Animaciones e instalaciones de video han participado en diversos festivales y espacios nacionales e internacionales entre ellos el Fest Anca en Slovakia y el canal de animación Bluetown TV de Canada, asi como el Trimarchi (2009) en Mar del Plata, Argentina. Tambien participo en Urbe y Arte (2006), Earthdance (2007,2008,2009), Voces Solidarias (2007), Dance Connection, Creamfields (2008 y 2009) y es parte del equipo creativo que crea y desarrolla las instalaciones de Auxiliar.
Como músico (Makumba), se ha presentado en festivales nacionales e internacionales como Contacto 2 (CC. España), Música para insectos (PUCP), Festival Asteroide2 (La Oroya), Editarma y “EvolArt” en Whitechapell Gallery, Londres.
Actualmente es Vj y Dj residente de Volt Sessions, impulsando el nuevo sonido del Drum&bass y Dubstep en el Peru.

Martín Inda es un videoartista argentino radicado en España. Ha trabajado en la creacion y desarollo de video para escenografías en mas de 15 óperas, obras de teatro y shows de danza en Europa y Estados Unidos, incluyendo una tetralogía de Wagner dirigida por Zubin Mehta y el último show en vida de Mercé Cunningham: "Nearly Ninety" con música en vivo de Sonic Youth. En su faceta de videojockey ha acompañado visualmente y colaborado con artistas como Fuck Buttons, Hot Chip, Drums of Death, Spank Rock y Entter.
Melmann es el proyecto musical solista de Nicolás Melmann, combinando recursos meramente electrónicos con instrumentos acústicos. Tras varios años de experiencia en bandas industriales y noise, decide tomar un camino en solitario que lo ha llevado a presentarse en varios lugares como Chile, Berlin, Hamurgo, Paris, Bordeaux, Londres, Barcelona y Madrid.

Nació en Buenos Aires, Argentina en 1979.
Es Artista Visual:diseñador, realizador y VJ (producción propia). En sus trabajos podemos encontrar, videoclips, video experimental, VJ sets, ilustración, pósters, artes de cd/música, y cortometrajes. Trabaja constantemente junto a la banda de rock Mataplantas y colabora con otras bandas de la escena indie de Buenos Aires. Es VJ residente y productor ( junto a 4 DJs/ músicos) de Fiesta HEY. En el último tiempo ha participado también de algunos programas de residencia: la ciudad de Hannover, Alemania junto a otros 11 realizadores del resto del mundo, y el último y más reciente proyecto formó parte un programa de residencia producido por FAAP, la Fund Prince Klaus de Holanda y el Festival de Arte Electrónico Videobrasil.
En agosto 2009 inauguró la muestra "Vete al Diablo" en This is Not A Gallery.En el contexto de la misma editó un libro homónimo que compila algunas de esas ilustraciones y obviamente incluye la exclusiva "visión infernal". En noviembre y diciembre de 2009 giró invitado a México como VJ, produciendo material exclusivo; e inaugurando y presentando también "Vete al Diablo" en su formato completo (ilustracion+video+libro) en la Galería Vértigo, donde puede visitarse hasta fines del invierno 2010 en México DF.

VJ & Projection Mapping Workshop on March 18, SAE Amsterdam

" It's that time of year again! Resolume and SAE Institute Amsterdam are offering a free VJ workshop, this time on the art and science of projection mapping!
If you haven't heard of this phenomenon before, it's a relatively new form of visual art. Instead of projecting on a flat rectangular screen, you project your images on a specific surface, ranging from custom made objects, to whole life size buildings. For some cool videos of mapping in action check out these clips:



For the workshop we'll be showing you the different tools and techniques used in projection mapping. For software we'll be focussing on the latest version of Resolume Avenue, which has some powerful features built-in, for easily mapping a surface.
We often hear the term workshop being thrown around, when it's actually just a lecture, but this one is actually all about doing things. We have plenty of beamers and computers (but feel free to bring your own), and after a short introduction, it's going to be all you, baby! Making objects or mapping out surfaces, it's going to be you at the controls.

Thiis is the trailer for Refugee Under Umbrella Videoart shortfilm. A study on how all the elements worked. The audio, the rythm that suggests for editing. Tryouts of compositions, ways of putting a concept feeling together. Studying how vignettes work, and the elements that were chosen and their significations.
In creative process all steps are very important, and to have a minimum ¨test¨with such an abstract and complex idea is very important to me. This is the result.

" Március 6-án szombaton, délután 2 órától Quartz Composer alapozó workshopot tartunk a VJ Centrumban, Bios és .lov. prezentálásában.
A Quartz Composer egy ingyenes, node-alapú vizuális programozási nyelv OSX platformra. A most szombati workshop alkalmával szó lesz a QC történetőrél, hogy miért is jó ez a technológia, és hogy mire használhatjuk. Megismerkedünk a szoftver alapvető tulajdonságaival, a kompozíció készítés alapjaival, szóval, ez egy alapozó kurzus lesz, de ha már ismered, használod az alkalmazást, akkor is hasznos lehet.
A Quartz Composer 4-et, azaz a Snow Leopard-os verziót fogjuk használni, ha régebbi rendszered van az sem gond, de pár bemutatott dolog nem fog működni.
Kérünk mindenkit akit érdekel a dolog, a szombati workshop előtt telepítse fel az XCode Developer Tools a rendszerére, ugyanis a QC ennek a csomagnak a része.

Live Performers Meeting

From 27th to 30st of May 2010, at Brancaleone in Rome, will take place the seventh edition of LPM - Live Performers Meeting: an international meeting of live video performers, visual artists and vjs, focused on live video performances.
Rome 2009 edition, registered the presence of 362 artists coming from Italy, Portugal, France, Germany, Canada, Hungary, United Kingdom, Poland, Spain, Uruguay, Latvia, Switzerland, Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Mexico, Greece, Denmark, United States, Austria, Australia, Turkey. During the whole four days, 289 performances, workshops and showcases, gave life to each area of the 900 square meters space of Brancaleone, enhanced with 15 projectors and as many screens.
For the second consecutive year, the edition of LPM settles in an exclusive location, the long-standing Brancaleone that with its structure, perfectly fit the growing needs of a meeting, that year after year has definetely enlarged its range of contents, artists and audience.
LPM once again, will use its 4-day formula, creating a truly unique event and granting a program full of workshops, project showcases, softwares and brand-new products.
Each of the 4 days, is characterized by a different theme and will proceed with the following schedule:
15:00 - 21:00 Workshop
15:00 - 16:00 Lectures and conferences
16:00 - 18:00 Presentation of projects and products
18:00 - 04:00 Performances and VJ / DJ sets
Installations and exhibition stands will be active throughout each day and broad areas of discussion and exchange will be available for the whole event.
LIVE VIDEO is obviously the main focus of the four days and each day is highly characterized by the different themes and scenes contributing to the event.
THURSDAY 27: DIGITAL FREEDOMS
Digital Freedoms is a day of meetings that will reunite together leaders and creators of the italian digital and electronic culture. The intent is to bring together theorists, ideologues, experts, activists and artists for a single date, to present and discuss
the most important updates of this sector. The core theme of the day is the essence of culture, politics and communication throughout new medias, always keeping straight and firm the spirit of freedom that characterized them for decades. As coordinators of the day, a committee of excellence, Luigi Pagliarini (Artificialia), Simona Lodi (Piemonte Share), Arturo Di Corinto (FHF), Filippo Martorana (Linux club), Oriana Persico and Salvatore Iaconesi (Art is Open Source).
FRIDAY 28: BREAKBEAT
This first day is devoted to electronics tunes, the very root of performative video that, in different ways, links together all the participants at the meeting, conferences, projects, performances and VJ sets. It will be accompanied by the dense sounds and incessant beat of electronic club music, with the broken rhythms of breakbeat and drum'n'bass. In addition to the technologies available this year, LPM has to "offer at the mercy" to the participants vjs, a DJ of excellence: SHY FX.
SATURDAY 29: ELECTROPOP + TECHNO + ELECTRO
In the second day devoted to electronics tunes, the central role will be played by projects more sensible to different sub-genres of electronics: 8-bit electronics, and electropop. Rhythms and sounds generated by Nintendo images, unique softwares, samplers, mini-synthesizers and vocoders, for an entertaining and "light" atmosphere, ready to involve and drag audience and participants. From to 2 to 5 am, the area will be invaded by the pulsating tunes of Techno and Electro.
SUNDAY 30: VISUAL GENDERS
A full day of Queer independent culture, a summary of the several projects active at a national and international level to experience the language of representation in terms of gender, politics and sexual orientations, aiming to deconstruct stereotypes and ideological power relationships.
Background videos and music will be shown during dinner, and after dinner a dedicated AV performance and vjset will be set. As usual, at the end of the evening, an open time for VJs will take place: vjs can perform freely, taking advantage of the many available video consoles, beamers and monitors.
LPM 2010 keeps the spirit of a meeting, which has been its main characteristic since the first edition. It is conceived to be a place for comparison and exchange of information and ideas among vjs, visual artists, live-video performers and passionates. Experimentation is one of the founding elements of its philosophy. LPM is a non-profit organisation where any gained fund is invested in supporting the research and development of the live visual field.
Similarity of ideals and common roots has prompted LPM to join the Avit network, whose aim is to improve and promote the culture of veejaying events worldwide. After the first festivals in England, the Avit network expanded worldwide, establishing collaborations as C23 in Germany (AVIT Berlin), Vision'r in France (AVIT France) and LPM in Italy. This partnership of "network" and "meeting" is possible thanks to a common cultural background and a strong affinity of spirit and purposes.
LPM is not a festival, it is an opportunity of meeting to get a glimpse of what visual-artists are creating or, even better, what they could create. Therefore, and in order to allow so many interesting artists to perform, the maximum length of a performance is 30 minutes.

Artiste berlinois autodidacte et pluridisciplinaire, Philip Geist est internationalement reconnu pour ses installations et performances audiovisuelles, ainsi que pour ses peintures et photographies. Spécialisé depuis quelques années dans le domaine de la projection de façade, il vient présenter sur murs de la ville de Genève ses subtils et complexes entremêlements entre espace, temps et images en mouvement.
Multidisciplinary and self taught Berlin artist Philip Geist is known internationally for his installations and audio visual performances as well for his photography and paintings. He has specialized for some years in the domain of facade projections. On the walls of the Genevois he will present his subtle and complex interminglings between space, time and movement.

Berlin artist Philipp Geist (33) shows video installation on the facade of the royal throne in Bangkok on the occasion of king Bhumibol's 82nd birthday from Dec 5-13, 2009.
The one-hour-show is the central part of the celebrations and will be seen by thousands of visitors. It interprets artistically the king's life and his work dedicated to public welfare. The art installation combines images of the king and his social projects in the past and present with 3-D-animations of Thai natural and cultural heritage and abstract-painterly passages.
The artist Philipp Geist:
'I feel honoured to be invited to Bangkok to contribute my work to this very special occasion. The organizers were searching for an artist who has already gained experience in creating big facade installations and who simultaneously has an artistic approach to the representation of diverse cultural themes. By mixing figurative and abstract-pictorial film sequences I want to symbolize the succesful combination of tradition and modernism in the king's work. I translated natural and cultural characteristics, which I have researched and photographed on visiting Thailand, into my own imagery and embedded them into partly minimal-purist, partly colourful, dreamlike and intangibly fragile compositions.'
The facade installation responds to the 3-dimensionality of the throne, highlights the architectural structure and neutralizes it again. What is emerging is an interplay between the depth of the building, figurative elements, abstract forms and various rhythms, colours and structures.
The 3-D-animations were created on the computer together with WeAreChopChop & VfxBase. The mapping of the images, which is the precise tailoring of the total composition to the facade, was developed with a partner organisation from France (Digital Slaves). The projection using state-of-the-art computer- and light technologies and the most powerful video projectors available is realized by the technical partner of the last Olympic Games in China. Part of the show is also a documentary of the king prepared by a team from Thailand. The concept and coordination of the festivity is carried out by the creative agencies Kaiser Communications and Fresh Air Festival from Bangkok.
A big orchestra of 128 international musicians, which has been assembled solely for this purpose, and a choir of 100 persons perform together with the light show. A diverse programme including dance performances guarantees a gigantic, singular experience.
Philipp Geist has realized many facade installations internationally. In 2007, he projected on the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, a museum of modern art in Rome, and in 2008, he realized an installation on the complete piazetta of the Berlin Kulturforum on the occasion of the Long Museum Nights. In 2010, a facade installation and a solo exhibition in Richmond/USA are to follow, as well as a facade installation in Montreal/Canada.
