DPRK project - ‘People’s Republic’
‘People’s Republic’ re-imagines the topology of global politics: what would have happened if capitalism had declined and socialism had become the dominant world politic ? China is the military/economic superpower and North Korea, the rebuilt industrial and technological ‘engine’ of the Asian economy, has reluctantly agreed to assimilate the disintegrating south. Pyongyang is the new Düsseldorf, and a new form of technologically-driven music is shifting popular music’s tropes.
‘People’s Republic’ plays with the possibilities presented by this alternate future in which rhythm has become a unifying social tool and machine hymns espouse the perfection of a people’s techno-utopia. In doing so, it seeks to re-examine the techniques of seduction and control - both political and social - as they exist in our manifested reality as well as in a how they might have evolved in an alternative present.

Mapping project is an alternative solution for using a light-projection in a small areas (clubs, bars, etc.) Projection is fully interactive, it reacts on sounds and it is controlled from mobile devices. Led-displays is usually quite expensive and complicated in use, we suggest to use light projection on egg cups (cardboard egg boxes), this material is extremely cheap, easy in maintainance and use.

音の彫刻 [ Preview - real-time ] - 'Monza' by Aoki Takamasa from Tony Broyez on Vimeo.
[ headphones recommended ]
[ 音の彫刻 / Sculptures of sound ] is a series of audio reactives artworks i've started 7 months ago.
'Reveal' (https://vimeo.com/accidentally/reveal) is the first one of this series. You can also check the other videos entitled 'sound sculptures' or 's.a.r.a test drive' to get a glimpse of the past.
In order to explore the aesthetic visual potential of digital audio datas extraction and analysis, i've developed a custom software in C++/OpenGL/GLSL built on top of Cinder. This software is called S.A.R.A (Synchronous Audio Reactive Algorithm)
The audio signal is captured and processed in real time and can be visualised through a set of algorithms. Still images can also be exported in high or very high resolution.
Using a specific category of sounds, one algorithm generates organic, nature inspired, flower-like geometrical shapes.
Two of those procedurally generated images (exported at 18,000 ^ 2 pixels) are currently used in a wall covering project for offices in Los Angeles. It is a collaboration with the american photograph Shoshannah White (http://www.shoshannahwhite.com).
I'm currently working with a sound designer to create a tailor-made audio atmosphere that will perfectly fit with all different category of visualisations.
Also interested to work/collaborate with other sound designers, DJs, VJs, photo and video artists. If you feel like your work could mix-match with this project, please get in touch.

Visual Installation at Museum Ludwig - Razzle Dazzle
Visual Installation at Museum Ludwig - Razzle Dazzle from Hannes Hummel on Vimeo.
After having seen our installation at the Flow Aesthetics Exhibition in KISD, we were asked by Museum Ludwig to create an installation for their annual kunst:dialoge. For the 2013 edition we than build two low-poly sculptures out of white carton, which were approximately 3×3 meters, mirroring each other across the entire room. We than used projection mapping techniques and MadMapper to configure the beamers, allowing us to only project on the sculpture.
At the finissage we vjayed live to better engage with the liveset of the djay and the audience, showing the different 2D and 3D visuals, which we created using Cinema4D and After Effects. Resolume Arena was used for the mixing of the different visuals. Later we than filmed the installation and I edited the video (no additional effects were applied to the figure or projections in the video).
After the exhibition the directorate of Museum Ludwig decided to keep the installation for an indefinite period of time.
We would like to thank the Museum Ludwig
and its staff - especially Tobi Peper.
