My friend YenAn asked me that day, "What does light mean to you?" I didn't give an immediate answer. I have focused on the interweaving structure of light, artificial light sources of different textures swaying and compounding each other, and even the relationship between light, space, sound, and people over the years. As for going forward to trace what light means to me, the answer quickly came to mind.

"For me, light is a process of reduction."

I think of the beginning of my VJ career in the last stage. At that time, I used 320×240 pixel (resolution) images for real-time computing. Over the past 20 years, people have pursued ultra-high video quality, HD, 4K, 8K. I wondered if the image reduces to a single color, and the visual content reduces to a geometric color plane, whether it comes from a projector or an LED display is actually a light source. I began to pay attention to the various possible poses of light in space during the process of emitting various luminescent materials to the imaging medium.

"Light Structure in The Room" is the first solo show of my career, presenting three series of works. "June Orb" was switched from the original audiovisual performance to an installation form, and tried to use three layers of holographic screen to express the composite state of two high contrast luminous media, laser and projection.

"LTF Laser to Fluorescence" shows the natural (physical) relationship of symbiosis, co-construction, mixing and circulation between two light sources when laser light excites fluorescence on a plane coated with a photosensitive material.

In addition, "Ring" is the most recent prototype in my "Surface" series. I used a laser beam to hit the ring-shaped transparent material, the beam of the three primary colors was decomposed into a spectrum, refracted to move in space, and established a particular relationship with the people in between. The ring-shaped light structure is the project I most want to continuously test and develop.

那天彥安問我 “對你來說,光代表什麼?” 當下我並沒有立刻給出答覆。這些年的我專注在光線交織而成結構,不同質地的人造光源彼此激盪、複合,乃至光與空間與聲音與人之間的關係,至於往前一步去追溯光對我而言是什麼,很快地腦海裡浮現了回答。

“對我而言,光是一個減化的過程。"

我想起自己的上一個階段VJ生涯的開始,當時在用320×240 pixel(解析度)的影像作即時運算,二十年來人們不斷往超高畫質追求,HD、4K、8K,但我卻心想如果影像的畫面減化到只呈現單一顏色,視覺的內容減化至一個幾何的色塊時,不管是投影機或LED顯示器其實都是一種發光源。我開始關注於各種發光媒材放射到成像介質的過程中,光線在空間中各種可能的姿態。

空間中的光結構是我創作生涯第一次的個展,其中展示三個系列作品。"六月球兒"由原先的音像演出改成裝置形式展出,並嘗試用三個層次的呈像面表現雷射和投影兩個發光媒材複合的狀態。

"LTF雷射致熒光"展示雷射光在塗布感光材質的平面上激發熒光,兩種光源之間存在的共生、共構,混合與循環的自然(物理)關係。

另外"環"則是介質系列裡最近期發展的一個原型作品。我用雷射光束打在環形的透明材質,RGB三個原色的光線被解構成光譜,折射至空間中運動著,並與其間的人建立某種關係。環形的光結構是我最想持續測試和開發的項目。
