Sound waves that become luminous forms, pixels that turn into electronic sequences to break down the boundaries between sound and vision.
From October 17th to 19th, the Nuovo Cinema Aquila in Rome will host the first edition of the Visual Sound Festival, an event dedicated to contemporary audiovisual art that explores the expression of artists under 35, presenting spectacular performances of experimental video and electronic music.
A laboratory of experimentation and a meeting point for emerging artists in the scene, Visual Sound is an opportunity to dive into the future of audiovisual artistic production and discover the most original talents from the Lazio region, presented by Fotonica Festival, an event that has been exploring the intersection of images and sounds in digital art in Rome for the past eight years.
Each evening, two Audio Visual Live performances push the boundaries of digital art, thanks to artists from the Lazio region who, through their futuristic projects, explore all the expressive possibilities linked to sound and image. They bring to life exclusively live performances of a hybrid and interdisciplinary nature, employing diverse techniques and instruments—from microphones to microscopes to computers. These performances give the audience the opportunity to personally experience the ongoing transformation of digital languages.
Video is the core element in experiencing the works, used like a musical instrument in dialogue with the music, amplifying its expressive power and helping to shape the emotions of the performance.
The performances are produced as part of the LAZIOSound project, funded by the Youth Policies of the Lazio Region and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
The Visual Sound Festival is produced by Flyer, the organization that, in 2004, launched LPM Live Performers Meeting, the largest event in the sector, now in its 25th edition. This allows the Visual Sound Festival to be part of a network of international partners that contribute to promoting Italian artists abroad.
