In Search of Belonging : A Cinematic Voyage (Live AV Perf.) from Julie Meitz on Vimeo.
Alla Ricerca dell'appartenenza : Un Viaggio Cinematografico
Live Audio-Visual Peformance by Julie Meitz
IO Project, Macchiagodena, Italy
ioproject.eu
A cinematic exploration about family, immigration and a sense of belonging; a voyage into Neo-Realism & Post-Realism.
The performance is based on parts of a picture book called, “The Arrival” by Shaun Tan shauntan.net/books.html. It is an audio-visual intertwining of related subjects from various feature films, documentaries, image loops and music/dialogue (Italian, French and American). It also includes some photos and video of people from Macchiagodena & the Molise region.
Side Notes:
This is my first attempt at a live AV performance. The application I used is called Resolume Avenue 3.1.0.
As I state in the opening of this video, my performance suffered by not having enough time to prepare such an ambitious idea (38 minutes perf.!) and for not knowing the application well enough. But it was indeed a learning experience and I will continue to explore AV :-)

Will you upgrade to Snow Leopard?

" The question is simple but very important. I thinking about CoGe 1.0 Snow Leopard only version. What do you think about it? "

Max Hattler 2

The Egg: Catch (visuals by Max Hattler + Noriko Okaku) from Max Hattler on Vimeo.
The Egg: 'Catch'
Pour House, Charleston, SC, USA
12 March 2009
Visuals directed and animated by Max Hattler and Noriko Okaku; triggered live via midi by keyboarder / frontman Ned Scott.
At this concert the single-screen visuals were projected on two overlapping screens, adding a doubling effect which is sometimes very nice, but doesn't work so well at other times due to the imprecise overlap of the two screens.

A/V live performance, AURORA Festival, Norwich, UK, 10 Nov 2007
"The piece has an unexpected sense of drama and energy, with Max Hattler’s structural, graphic forms intervening spikily in Robert Seidel’s treated video work - harmony and dissonance, form and chaos... quite the opposite of most conventional VJ sets, which often seem to function as stylish but lazy wallpaper." CINESTHESY 1.0

IDUUN @ CINESTHESY 1.0 (EXTRACT) from PIXELS Transversaux on Vimeo.

AUDEROSESELAVY & EMOTYPE @ CINESTHESY 1.0 (Extract) from PIXELS Transversaux on Vimeo.

KSKF@ CINESTHESY 1.0 (EXTRACT) from PIXELS Transversaux on Vimeo.

TRIPTRAIN

TRIPTRAIN from supeReel on Vimeo.
This is a visual example of audio/video installation TRIPTRAIN, it was on at NXNW art and music festival 2009, The Way We Are exhibition.
TRIPTRAIN reflects our passion for trains and railway, industrial imagery and electronic sounds, this plays an important part in our work, in this project it is an interpretation of industrial sounds, in particular train and railway sounds. Color plays an important part as well, it changes the look and the feel or the atmosphere and the perspective of the image, the same clip is modified with color reduce and other filters to gain this effect, which completely transforms the image and when the clips are played, each one appears to be different, even though it is the same image.
This installation consist of two projections, that are different in dimension and duration, played in the loop, projected to the corner, one on one wall, another on another, but colliding edges at the very peak of a corner. The second video, that is a variable speed and tempo, while the speed ant tempo of the fist video dose not change, is recorded the way that it would start later than the first one, which is played continuously, that means every time the second video is played, it starts at different frame of the first one.

U2 Tour Visuals by Michael Paul Young (Thailand)

U2 from Michael Paul Young on Vimeo.
" In February of 2009 we got a call from Catherine Owens, the long time super creative director for the uber-famous band U2. Catherine came across our work and knew she found the team who could help with U2’s 2009 world tour (titled 360). After a quick stint of meetings in New York, we came back to the Bangkok studio and begin work for the following two months on numerous ideas.
We began our development on the videos for the tracks Beautiful Day, Ultra Violet and The Unforgettable Fire. The first series of works involved filming small fish common in the canals of Bangkok for very fluid and dreamlike sequences. For the second series we explored mapping the films into a 3d space and further distorting them for an enhanced depth and perspective. Then for the last series of works we explored more solid colors, 2d and fast paced clips to stimulate lighting effects and screen energy during the performance. In the end we created over 100 different sequences, with over 300 total clips delivered in various formats, colors and speeds.
The concert opened in Barcelona on June 30, 2009 to a sold out crowd of 90,000 fans. The screen that displayed this work was designed by Willie Williams, Mark Fisher, Chuck Hoberman, and Frederic Opsomer. The screen was composed of 888 individual hexagonal panels that support 500,000 Barco LED pixels. It can transform from seven meters to 22 meters high and move up and down. To sum it up, this is the most massive and badass screen ever and we were mega-amped to have worked on such an intense project.
