Dear artists and collectives,

Don’t miss your chance to be part of „Freiheitsleuchten”, an extraordinary light art project set in the historic city center of Mühlhausen as part of the 2025 – Year of Freedom commemorations and the Thuringian State Exhibition “freyheit 1525 – 500 Years of the German Peasants' War.”

We invite artists to bring history to life through contemporary light art, projections, and video mapping.

Proposals are invited in the following three categories:

1. Video Mapping Competition (Marienkirche)- Prize money: €10,000
   Requirement 30-second concept video
    
2. Video Mapping Open Call
   Open application | Concept PDF, optional video | Budget proposal by the artist
    
3. Projections & Installations
   Open application | Concept PDF | Budget proposal by the artist
    

Applications for multiple locations are welcome.
Submissions deadline: June 30, 2025, 11:59 PM (CET) – via our Website.

Liebe Künstlerinnen und Künstler, liebe Kollektive,

Nutze jetzt die Chance, Teil von „Freiheitsleuchten“ zu werden – einem außergewöhnlichen Lichtkunstprojekt in der historischen Innenstadt von Mühlhausen. Das Projekt findet im Rahmen des Gedenkjahres „2025 – Jahr der Freiheit“ und der Thüringer Landesausstellung „freyheit 1525 – 500 Jahre Bauernkrieg“ statt.

Das Lichtkunstfestival lädt Künstler:innen ein, mit zeitgenössischer Lichtkunst, Projektionen und Videomapping Orte der historischen Innenstadt neu zu interpretieren und Geschichte so auf sinnlich erfahrbare Weise sichtbar zu machen.

Gesucht werden Beiträge in drei Kategorien:

Open Call: Videomapping & Light Art Event "Freiheitsleuchten"

"Dear artists and creatives,

We are seeking artistic contributions that explore themes of freedom, resistance, social transformation, and remembrance through visual expression. We especially welcome applications from videomappers, short film creators, motion designers, and graphic designers.

The light art and videomapping event “Freiheitsleuchten” will take place on October 17–18, 2025, in the historic old town of Mühlhausen (Thuringia, Germany). As part of the commemorative year “500 Years of the Peasants’ War” and the Thuringian state exhibition “freiheyt 1525”, six locations — including churches, squares, and streets — will be transformed into walkable light installations.

We are pleased to announce that Genius Loci Weimar will be producing and curating this event.

Highlight:
One of the locations, the Marienkirche, is part of a videomapping competition — with a 10,000 Euro prize for the winning concept.

For all other locations, artists are invited to submit a project concept along with a budget proposal.
