Live Cinema Festival 2025
September 18 > 20
Circolo degli Illuminati

Hello Vj,

We are ready to kick off the XII edition of our festival, continuing with the same passion and dedication that has guided us through these extraordinary years.

“See the Sounds, Hear the Images” continues to be our mantra, encapsulating the essence of a one-of-a-kind event.

This year we celebrate the XII edition with a line-up designed to surprise and take you on an immersive journey into the world of real-time audiovisual performances.

From September 18 to 20 at Circolo degli Illuminati, in collaboration with ICIAP – 23rd International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (AI), you can expect international artists and special projects, ranging from audiovisual live setsvideomappingDJ sets to challenges dedicated to algorithmic creativity. An avant-garde event where sound and image come alive in an engaging and unrepeatable experience.

On Thursday, September 18, the opening night is entirely dedicated to the dialogue between art and artificial intelligence. It begins with installations and screenings connected to Challenge 1 – AI Video Generation (screening and award ceremony), and continues with AV performances exploring the relationship between humans and algorithms: from the visionary opening of Metainferno to the poetic-computational reflection of Togetherness, and the performative tension of Misalignment. At the heart of the evening, Challenge 2 – Live VJ-ing lights up the stage: live visuals synchronized with DJ sets with jury and audience voting. To close, a late session club-oriented set that pushes audiovisual aesthetics onto the dancefloor.

Friday, September 19, is fully dedicated to the national scene with Live Cinema Made in Italy 2025: a showcase intertwining audiovisual storytellingsound experimentation and real-time processing. Two sessions designed to explore languages, tools and poetics of Italian live cinema — from authorial research to the new generations — in the late evening to expand public participation. Leading the bill, Nabìr presents AlgoRhythm, a pulsing live coding set where code becomes instrument and performance. In dialogue, //collestkidonpluto// brings , an AV performance that fuses Sir David Attenborough’s address to world leaders with particle-based visuals — from drifting clouds to DNA-like structures and tree-growth morphologies — and a score of processed guitar, synth, Tibetan bells, vocals, piano and relentless drum patterns, all improvised in real time so no two shows are alike. Opening the night, a daily videomapping performance introduces the evening with a short but intense immersion into glitch and error aesthetics, transforming disruption into visual language.

Saturday, September 20, the final night, closes with two projects embodying the spirit of the festival. Phantoms investigates the gaze as a shared mirror between human and machine, flipping perspectives on LED walls and revealing the “phantoms” of our contemporary hyper-visibility. Following this, the signature of a master of intermedia arts: Klaus Obermaier with FACELESS _ VOICELESS, a performative act on the power of images and voices in public space, among anonymizationsurveillance, and real-time manipulation. A powerful, necessary finale that brings technology back to the center of artistic and ethical reflection.

The Live Cinema Festival is produced and organized in collaboration with international partners and enriched by previewsand satellite events dedicated to live video, reaching several cities worldwide.

Don’t miss the chance to experience the XII edition of the Live Cinema Festival first-hand.
Get ready to explore a universe of unique emotions and let yourself be carried into a world of experimentation and magic.

PROGRAM

Thursday, September 18

Garden • 21:00–21:30

Misalignment (AV Performance)

Infratonal [FR]

multimodal performance exploring the fragile and irregular dialogue between human and artificial intelligence. Who is the instrument and who is the author? Between live improvisation, gesture, and algorithmic textures, Misalignment searches for authentic moments within the logical mechanisms of the machine, questioning the possibility (and limits) of emotion in the shared space between us and the algorithm.

Garden • 20:25–20:55

Togetherness – Resonances of Expression (AV Performance)

Filippo Gregoretti

After its debut at Manifesta (Barcelona) and the World Economic Forum (Davos), this project comes to Rome to merge art, science and AI, transforming hate speech into an experience of awareness and harmony. Through linguistic analysissound processing, and generative visuals, language becomes sensitive matter; a work exploring the emotional resonance of words and proposing a new digital ecology of listening.

Garden • 20:00–20:20

Inferno1911 (AV Performance)

Metainferno

An audiovisual concert reinterpreting L’Inferno (1911, filmed in Velletri with a Lumière camera) in a contemporary key: the silent film is scored live and remixed with AI-generated content. A visual-sound ritual reflecting on the power (and dangers) of digital media: control, disinformation, “wars” fought in the infosphere.
On-stage collaborations/credits: Gugghyart (photogrammetry, NeRF, Gaussian Splatting, drones) and B-VISIONARY (AR/AI) for immersive environments and visual layers.

Room 2 • 22:00–23:00

CHALLENGE 2 – AI Live VJ-ing
(AI VJ Set Contest with audience vote)

Together with Live Cinema Festival, ItalAI & TrueSound AI and ICIAP 2025: up to 10 VJs on stage, real-time visuals over live DJ sets, mentoring with professionals, and mixed voting (50% international jury + 50% public via QR). A testing ground combining talenttechnique, and stage presence.

Room 2 • 23:00–01:30

Monochrome Mirage (VJ Set)

Radu Negut

black-and-white desert where the eye chases the mirage: shadowssand, and wind become dynamic patterns, a hypnotic choreography of contrasts. A minimalist yet powerful journey into the generative, where landscape is a dreaming mind.

Room 2 • 22:00–01:30

Collider • DJ Set

DJ and curator of the Fleurs Sonores series, Collider crosses Bass MusicTechnoGrimeHard Drum, and Jungle, with a “futurist” attention to contemporary club culture. An open-air set of genres in controlled collision: energy, rhythmic layering, and vision.

Friday, September 19

Live Cinema Made in Italy 2025 (AV Performance)

A showcase dedicated to Italian research in live cinema: audiovisual storytellingsound experimentationcode, and real-time images. Two moments to share routes, practices, and trajectories of the national scene — from lab to stage.

Garden • 21:30–22:00

AlgoRhythm (Live Coding Set)

Nabìr [IT]

live coding performance where code becomes an instrument, generating rhythms and visuals in real time. Nabìr transforms programming into a stage act, turning algorithms into soundscapes and audiovisual improvisations.

Garden • 22:15–22:55

(AV Performance)

//collestkidonpluto// [IT]

An audiovisual performance exploring the tension between the natural and the artificial. Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s speech at the UN Climate Action Summit, the project unfolds through particle-based visuals morphing from DNA helixes to tree-like structures, accompanied by a live soundtrack blending guitar, synth, Tibetan bells, vocals, piano, and percussion, processed with effects to create an ever-changing sonic journey. Each performance is unique, reflecting both ecological urgency and creative experimentation.

Saturday, September 20

Garden • 22:20–23:00

FACELESS _ VOICELESS (AV Performance)

Klaus Obermaier

A pioneer of intermedia arts stages a real-time deconstruction of face and voice as tools of power and control in public space. Anonymizationsurveillance, and manipulation become an audiovisual body: a raw, political, and necessary work on our mediated identity.

Garden • 21:30–22:05

Phantoms (AV Performance)

Pascolo Abusivo

The point of view as mirror: who watches and who is being watched? Phantoms reverses roles and perspectives on LED walls, turning vision into shared matter. Between hypnotic cycles and sound textures, the “phantoms” of our hyper-visibility emerge: the desire to see/be seen, the fragility of image, and of our presence in others’ gaze.

Thursday 18 - Friday 19 - Saturday 20 September

Disruption (Videomapping)

Radu Negut

In the lexicon of computer viruses, “disruption” is the act of breaking systems, producing glitches, artifacts, and blackouts. Radu Negut transforms this semantics into visual matter, unveiling an aesthetics of malfunction: bugs and errors become language, crisis becomes image. A brief yet intense experience, on the threshold between accident and revelation.

CHALLENGE 1 – AI Video Generation
(AV Installation / Screening & Award)

In collaboration with Live Cinema Festival, ItalAI & TrueSound AIand the ICIAP 2025 community: an open challenge to conference participants to develop a custom video generation modelsynchronized to original tracks composed by Collider. Only algorithmic content, no editing: pure computational imagination. All accepted works are screened and ranked, with official awards.

12. Genius Loci Weimar: Pressemitteilung - Start des Festivals - FAUST

FAUST

ZUM AUFTAKT DES 12. GENIUS LOCI WEIMAR FESTIVALS FÜR VIDEOMAPPING UND MEDIENARCHITEKTUR

05. September – 07. September 2025
