Max Hattler

" Max Hattler is interested in the space between abstraction and figuration in the moving image, where storytelling is freed from the constraints of traditional narrative. Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005 with an MA in Animation, he works across the fields of experimental short film, music video and audio-visual live performance, and collaborates with musicians and sound artists. He has worked with bands including Basement Jaxx, Economy Wolf, Dollskabeat, The Egg, and his dad's outfit Hattler. Max has shown his award-winning experimental films at hundreds of festivals worldwide, including the European Media Art Festival, Onedotzero, Resfest, Rotterdam, Image Forum Festival, Annecy Animation Festival and Animafest Zagreb. He has performed live audio-visuals across Europe, the US and Japan, including London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts, Media Art Friesland Festival, Curtas Vila do Conde, The Animation Show, and SuperDeluxe Tokyo. Visuals directed and animated by Max Hattler and Noriko Okaku; triggered live via midi by keyboarder / frontman Ned Scott.
At this concert the single-screen visuals were projected on two overlapping screens, adding a doubling effect which is sometimes very nice, but doesn't work so well at other times due to the imprecise overlap of the two screens.
