Little beat reactive patch I integrated into Dragan VJ Mixer. Based on a qc patch orginally posted by Coge a while back. You basically feed jpgs into it, the patch then animates them applies a few random effects and punches it through mask layers built from a similar workflow. Sorry this doesn't have audio - I'll capture this properly through my Atem next time. This patch is a bit heavy to balance with realtime recording. I might churn it all over to opengl for efficiency.

Defcon is one of the world’s largest annual computer hacker conventions, held every year in Las Vegas, Nevada. To celebrate their 20th anniversary at the Rio Hotel, Zebbler Studios was brought in to make the decorations extra-special. The resulting centerpiece was a stunning 30-foot projection-mapped sculpture of a smiley face (Defcon’s logo) exploding into 19 separate pieces hanging from the tall ballroom ceiling. Other decorations throughout the convention included a whole family of projection-mapped dragons and a custom Defcon logo sculpture with a built-in LED light show for the poolside DJ booth.

As the video explains, the original idea and schedule felt apart when the volcano erupted, and the 3 weeks long residency turned into just 5 days on site, to setup the installation and prepare a live performance…"

About this video: This is such a beautiful remix of such a highly revered and important historical Hindu mantra, I didn't want to make the video too layered or crazy, but rather just wanted to add seemingly fitting supplemental video. The main video used here is from a 2008 full length film (written, directed, produced and animated entirely by American artist Nina Paley) called "Sita Sings The Blues." It is available on archive.org, so it's use is protected under the creative commons license. I just think the video is really really beautiful, and its one that I go back to often in my live VJing. For this video, I took it into Final Cut Pro, and just edited it to the music, putting the visual parts in places where I thought they fit with the music. It was a huge challenge, because I chose to use a pre-standing three minute video clip to chop up and re-edit along with the music, trying to follow the flow of the (3:45) track as best I could, but without using any part more than once. Like doing a puzzle, almost. The initial intro sequence is the very beginning of an animated short that I created while in college called "IS," and it is about the importance of breath, the nature of being, and the dissolution of self (however the only part seen here is the culmination of consciousness).

Yes! I just had to do it...."again" lol...
So basically I became obsessed and fell in love even more awhile ago with geometry and geometric shapes in general. After awhile I realized that I wanted to take the "wiggling" animation to the next level. My inner twelve-year old boy curiosity led me to learn about projection animations, projection mapping, and geometric shape animation studies. I started having so much fun that I just had to make this project bigger than it was intended, so I brought on three of my friends who were not only family to me but were also out of my top 10 of creative partners that I have enjoyed working with over the years: which led to an amazing collaboration amongst creative powerful minds. About the "Wiggle" Command in AE | BASIC (in general):
Rather than adding several random keyframes for certain properties to animate your objects like: "rotation", "scale", "opacity" and so on, a much faster and more flexible way to do that is to use a Wiggle expression (plugging in a set of numbers), which automatically creates the animation in your objects for you.
About the "Wiggle" Command in AE | (MORE IN GENERAL)
Wiggle allows you add randomness to a property of a layer. For example you can cause a jittery chaotic motion to a layer by applying the wiggle expression to the Position property of a layer. To create the wiggle expression Command+Click on the layer property stopwatch and enter the formula wiggle(freq, amp ,octave). The elements of the expression represent how the wiggle will be calculated. [an error occurred while processing this directive]For this discussion, open After Effects, create a New Composition, and create a 200 pixel by 200 pixel solid. With the solid layer selected in the Timeline, press the P key to display the Position property for the layer. Command+Click (Alt+Click in Windows) the Stopwatch Icon, and in the expression window add the expression wiggle(15, 50, 1).
Frequency defines how many wiggles happen each second. In this case 15 wiggles are happening every second, or every other frame.
Amp is calculated in units of the property for which it is applied. In our example, since we are applying the expression to the position property, 50 says that the layer can move 50 pixels in any direction.
The final value, Octave is the level of detail the wiggle should have. It should be noted that you don’t have to use this third value in your expression. If you do not include it, After Effects will use the default value of 1 will be applied. So the expression could actually be written wiggle(15,50).

Jan Šrámek and Martin Búřil are filmmakers who have been independently oscillating between narrative and experimental animation for some time. In their joint projects, they search for the deepest connection between the two forms, whether in films, videos or gallery exhibitions. The collection for the Duchcov Chateau called Laputoidy (Laputoids) is an audio-visual response to the troubled history of the landscape and the surroundings of this north Bohemian town. Through a significant exaggeration that simulates two views of the chateau garden, they provide visitors insight into Duchcov architecture, show changes in the environment and outline alternatives of possible future transformations to Duchcov's surroundings. Jan Šrámek's distinctive illustrative design is first time ever fully manipulated and animated by Martin Búřil.
