D-3..the countdown is on!
The first artists have arrived, t-shirts are being printed, programs have been distributed throughout the city, stage production has started and the volunteers meeting was held last Thursday …we are (almost) ready!
This year's program mixes numerous genres et trends that the Festival has been promoting for the last 9 years. As always, the Mapping festival showcases worldwide avant-garde talents who promote innovation in the audio visual field. Hundreds of artists will take part in the 50 concerts, performances and events that will occur during the 10 days of this 9th edition.
The Mapping Festival, held from May 2nd till May 12th, will be presenting a program with outdoors and indoors activities, including worldwide and European premieres!
This year we will present to you our most international and ambitions edition ever !
For the first time this year, the heart of the Contemporary Art Building (BAC), Le « Commun », will be converted into our festival Headquarters, with art installations as well as workshops, roundtables, our ticket office, a merchandising stand and a bar.
The 9th edition of the Mapping festival will officially open on Thursday May 2nd, from 6pm, with the Opening of the Exhibition.
We warmly invite you, from May 2nd to 12th, to discover the dark poetry of Sougwen Chung, the hypnotic and heart-beating atmosphere of Nonotak, the colorful immersion of Squidsoup, the universe of graphics and sounds of Weng Nam Yap and the cloudy constellation of Sembilan Matahari.
Our Headquarters will also welcome “Combustion”, a smoky and electric performance from French artist RKO, the urban and immersive performance “Layers” from V-Atak label artist Nohista, the absurd and cartoonish “The 1000 people band” from duo Gangpol & Mit, and, last but not least, the eagerly awaited performance by MoritzSimon Geist and the MR808 robot.
Le « Commun » will be a place to network, exchange, and meet professionals, artists, journalists and the Mapping team. A warm and friendly space, just like our festival !

Shogun Audio est l'un des rares labels de Drum&Bass d'aujourd'hui qui, dans sa grande discrétion, a su se réinventer et se développer dans la plus pure tradition des labels fondateurs de cette musique intemporelle... On ne parle plus de genre, de style, d'école de musique...on parle tout simplement d'une expérience sonore et visuelle hors du commun, débridée et libre, qui fera certainement date dans l'Histoire du Mapping Festival...

DJ Friction, founder/member of the label, a proper 90's kid from Brighton, managed to get the primal inspiration, creativeness and arrogance back into Jungle, after many years... Growing up to the sounds of the like Marcus Intalex, Virus Rec, Andy C,... Shogun Audio is one of the rare nowadays label that not only managed to reinvent and develop itself, in a very discrete way, but also carried on in the proper traditional ways of the founding Drum & Bass labels.

Originaires d’Espagne, de Pologne, du Royaume-Uni, de Turquie et des Pays-Bas, leurs différents profils sont complémentaires. Ce collectif d'artistes médias, performeurs, animateurs 3D, documentaristes, musiciens, Djs et Vjs travaille avec des matériaux audiovisuels issus d'importantes institutions européennes. Ainsi, le Eye Film Institute (NL), l’Institut voor Beeld en Geluid (NL), la Nationaal Archief (NL), le Sarnamihuis (NL), la Fundacja Archeologia Fotografii (PL), le National Digital Archive (PL) et bien d’autres leur ont ouvert leurs archives afin de matérialiser ce projet. Le public profitera d'un voyage audiovisuel au travers de la réinterprétation de l'origine et des archives institutionnelles. La performance s’efforce de capter le point de vue d'une nouvelle génération de créateurs médias sur les problèmes et inquiétudes clés de l'Europe dans laquelle nous vivons. European Souvenirs est une performance de Karol Rakowski (PL), Barış Gürsel (TR), Farah Rahman (NL), Malaventura (ES) and Noriko Okaku (JP/UK) qui à été présentée pour la première fois en octobre 2012 à Amsterdam, et tourne à travers l'Europe et au-délà depuis. Elle a été Commandée par la Fondation Culturelle Européenne.
Travelling is remixing “The archive both registers and creates the event,” wrote Jacques Derrida in Archive Fever. We choose what we keep, how we want to keep it and where to keep it, thereby creating history as we know it. With this knowledge, new archives, with new tales, can be created from existing ones. So given a contrasting context, every document can represent something completely different. This is something similar to the departure point of a project called European Souvenirs, which brings together five media artists from five European countries, as they scoured through leading audiovisual archives all over the continent. The project’s curators are the “remix experts” of the Spanish Zemos98, a collective comprised of VJs, DJ’s, animators, performers, musicians and filmmakers, all focusing on the reinterpretation of existing material. In the context of this project, they opted for both musicians and visual artists, so that the remixing could concentrate on both sound and vision. The overall impression is one that alternates between melancholy and energy, with the odd bit of eroticism thrown in for good measure. But thanks, in part, to its high quality and mostly very danceable electronic music and excellent sound bites, it’s hardly ever boring. Here and there the chaotic flow is punctuated by silence, while an individual anecdote is related. All in all, it’s a sensory, associative trip through collective memories in which you really do feel as though it’s all being created on the spot. The chaotic reiteration that this project promises to be, must include the inherent complexity of an abstract concept like European identity, which, from this production, will certainly not come across as stable. Borders are constantly shifting and changing, memories are always reinventing themselves and unity is taking refuge in being different, as if acknowledging the fact that no two stories are the same. Remixing, as the mission statement of the project stresses, is more than just the artistic heritage of an avant-garde concept of collage. It’s also more than the DJs’ sampling culture from the 1980s. Remixing is part of our culture and it influences the cross-fertilisation of areas such as education, communication, culture and politics. Borders are there to be visually crossed.

Onionlab présente Evolució, une œuvre qui aborde l’abstraction graphique et sonore du concept dont il tire son nom : l'évolution. Cette oeuvre s’interprète comme une transformation, une construction et un changement de la réalité à travers le temps ; l’évolution perçue aussi comme un processus créatif discontinu.
Créée avec des techniques de mapping en 3D, Evolució sera projetée sur la façade principale du Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève, même si le concept d’évolution de la pièce se projette bien plus loin : il a été conçu comme un processus de transformation ouvert et peut être adapté à différentes façades et surfaces de projection. Ainsi Evolució peut continuer son propre processus de transformation...
Onionlab presents Evolució, a piece that revolves around the graphic and sound abstraction of the concept it is named after: evolution. It is construed as transformation, construction and alteration of reality through time; evolution as a discontinuous creation process as well.
Created with 3D projection mapping techniques, this time, Evolució will be projected onto the façade of the Geneva Art and History Museum, though the piece takes the evolution concept even further: It was conceived as an open transformation process so that it can also be adapted to different façades and projection surfaces, and so that Evolució can continue its transformation process.

Des boules quies, de l'eau et des fruits et autres matériels de réduction des risques seront mis à votre disposition.
Nuit Blanche? will offer a chill out space from Wednesday, 8 till Friday, May 10th at the Kugler Foundry and an information booth at the Museum of Art and History on Saturday, May 11th from 8 pm till 2 am. Nuit Blanche? will have the pleasure of answering all your questions about the consumption of psychology active products in a festive environment. Earplugs, water and fruits will be provided you with.
