Artist Statement:
Intermedia Syneathesia is a work that focuses on sensory perception and phenomenology. It aims to bring attention to our lived and embodied experiences of the Brisbane urban landscape, revealing the subjective tension between the way we construct meaning in an external environment. Manipulated visual and audio field recordings explore the process of how sound and noise turn from a physical phenomenon into a meaningful one through the passage of recognition, and the way in which a stimulation of light on the retina can lead to a concept of depth perception and visual spatial awareness such as direction, scale and motion.
Digital technology plays a key role in the work, exposing information held to the periphery that is almost out of visual or hearing range and bringing it to the forefront. It is also used to explore the process of cross-modal association that is involved with the construction of meaning; the way in which a synaesthetic stimulation in one or more different senses can trigger association and memory in another. This allows the work to give descriptions of a site specific location that go beyond the surface of naïve realism and question the nature of perception itself.

A feast of pure Colour, Motion and Sound. Non-representational Art takes the lead at Reykavík Visual Music – Punto y Raya Festival, which will take place from January 30th to February 2nd 2014 at HARPA, the Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Center.
The programme features live performances by major artists like Ryoji Ikeda and Ryoichi Kurokawa; specially commissioned opening concerts by Sigurður Guðjónsson + Anna Þorvaldsdóttir & Bret Battey + Hugi Guðmundsson; guest Austrian and Polish Film panoramas, and the selected works in the international live set & short-film Competitions, which brought together nearly 500 artists from 46 countries.
Parallel activities include the "Cadences of Colour and Line" exhibit at Listasafn Reykjavíkur (Reykjavik Art Museum, from February 1st to April 13th) and the "2014 Academy Programme", featuring workshops open to local students and tutored by renowned professionals in the field.
Co-produced by RCVM [Reykjavík Center for Visual Music, Iceland] and MAD [Moviment D'Alliberament Digital, Barcelona·Spain].

Using as title a Ludwig Wittgenstein formula, this composition deals with references, meanings and similarities. Is there something that is completely identical to another? How far you can make copies without changing the original? Do the copies themselves change the meaning of the original? Questioning tautological concepts, the performance aims to show in sound and image, this relationship. The work is performed using video-mapping techniques, creating illusions of three-dimensional depth to the viewer. On two symmetrical screens, shapes and objects are opposed, seeking to analyze, through images and sounds, the relations of equality, reality, their significant and meaning.
The composition is divided into five parts, each one dealing with a theme in some way related to the work title. In the first part, the images speak of identity. Something or someone can be exactly like another? what characterizes the identity? Why do people constantly seek an identification with a group, trying to fit into labels that would ensure an identity "itself." The second part deals with the relationship between signifier and signified. Testing the limits of language, a poem is spoken beginning with phrases that have meanings and logic and, over time, deconstructions in the syntax and the creation of neologisms lead to a search for the ineffable, the whole that is beyond language. The next part subject is the illusion of the senses. Optical illusions suggest that what we see is not always the truth, if it really exists. In the fourth part, are treated opposites (x equal to not x). With minimal use of colors, graphics will fight for a space on the screen. The final part is about the limit of use of the words. There are no words sufficient to noun everything that exists, so gaps are formed. In an attempt to create a utopian spectrum that could name everything, words and phrases are broken down, leaving its original form and seek to belong to a continuous thread that connects all that exists.

Usando como título uma fórmula do filósofo Wittgenstein, esta composição trata de referências, significados e semelhanças. Existe mesmo alguma coisa que seja totalmente idêntica a outra? Até onde é possível fazer cópias sem alterar o original? As próprias cópias alteram o sentido do original? Questionando conceitos tautológicos, a performance busca mostrar, em som e imagem, estas relações. A obra é executada a partir de técnicas de video-mapping, criando ilusões de profundidade tridimensional para o espectador. Em duas telas simétricas, formas e objetos se contrapõem, buscando, através das imagens e sons, analisar as relações de igualdade, realidade, seus significantes e significados.
A composição é dividida em cinco partes, cada uma tratando de um tema de alguma forma relacionado ao título. Na primeira parte, as imagens falam de identidade. Pode algo ou alguém ser exatamente igual a outro? o que caracteriza a identidade? Por que as pessoas buscam incessantemente uma identificação a um grupo, tentando se encaixar em rótulos que assegurariam uma identidade "própria". Na segunda parte é tratada a relação entre significante e significado. Testando os limites da linguagem, uma poesia é narrada começando com frases que tem significados e sentidos lógicos e, ao longo do tempo, a desconstrução da sintaxe e a criação de neologismos levam a uma busca pelo indizível, o todo que está além da linguagem. Em seguida o tema é a ilusão dos sentidos. Ilusões de ótica propõem que o que vemos nem sempre é a verdade, se é que ela realmente existe. Na quarta parte, são tratados os opostos (x igual a não x). Com o uso mínimo de cores, elementos gráficos vão lutando por um espaço na tela. Já na parte final, é questionado o limite do uso da palavra. Não existem palavras suficientes para dar conta de tudo que existe, logo lacunas se formam. Na tentativa utópica de criar um espectro que consiga nomear tudo, palavras e frases se decompõem, saem de sua forma original e buscam pertencer a um fio contínuo que liga tudo que existe.

The artistic committee is now concentrating on the program for the next edition, the 10th (!), which promises to be again full of surprises and new discoveries. This anniversary edition will take place between May 22nd and June 1st 2014, so book your dates as of now!
PROJECT SUBMISSIONS :
Please note that this year, the Mapping festival will not proceed through an open call for projects. Although, if you still wish to send us an extraordinary and not-to-miss artistic proposition, you are welcome to send us a full description of the project (with your biographies and a link to a video of the project) at: nous@mappingfestival.com. Deadline: January 31 st, 2014!
MIRAGE 2014 COLLABORATION :
We take this opportunity to announce you also our collaboration with the second edition of the Mirage festival, which will be held in Lyon between February 19th and 23rd, 2014. With an aim to explore the union between sound and image, this event allows multimedia experimentations in several locations of the French city, such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, Le Sucre, Le Lavoir Public and galleries of Pentes de la Croix-Rousse.
Therefore, the Mirage festival invites you to discover a strong selection of performances, workshops and installations, of artists such as Ryoichi Kurokawa, Nonotak, Noitu, XX+XY, Pierce Warnecke and Benjamin Muzzin. A hybrid program destined for curious, professionals and digital art lovers.

At the Gate is a short video I created for the 2013 Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Staff Film Festival. You can see more of my video work, and hear more of my music at http://eddycolloton.com
This video is made up of composited layers of sound reactive video clips that I captured at Bell Sound Studios (http://bellsound.com), with lots of help from Marilyn Morris, one of Bell's engineers. The clips are created from original video I shoot, then manipulate in Final Cut Pro. The clips are then played back in Modul8, with sound reactivity and other effects enabled. I captured the video output from Modul8 at Bell Sound, then composited multiple captures in FCP.

Will Copps is an audio/visual artist known for his interactive installations, experimental music, and signature "pixel painting" visual style. Copps creates both finished audio/visual pieces and custom-coded generative installations that spectators interact with through SONAR detection in museum and gallery spaces. These are not only never the same twice, but spectator interaction permanently alters their course.
Copps' visual style comes from turning video pixels into small digital paintbrushes. The manipulation of these pixels as the videos play results in high-definition abstract digital works. Depending on the piece, this manipulation is done either in the artist's studio (using MIDI controllers) or by sensing a viewer's position, physical attributes, or time of interaction in spaces (using SONAR detection).
Copps is the Communications Manager at Videopong.net, a non-profit website for sharing and remixing video clips for VJs.

This is a recording from my last gig for the AYLI ugly sweater party at the Loft in Public Works, San Francisco.
In addition to using animations from various sources, I filmed some custom content. Totally experimental.
The films were shot in front of a green screen, cleaned up and chromakeyed on Adobe After effects before dropping it into Resolume Arena for some visual fun.

The project is a result of the joined creative activities of two Hungarian artists who build a unique connection between the traditional culture of image creation – painting, in the given case – and contemporary electronic art.
Éva Köves (http://evakoves.wordpress.com/), painter, from the mid-generation of Hungarian artists and Andrea Sztojánovits (http://attaray.com/) representing the younger generation of artists, began cooperat- ing in 2009. Their intermedial pieces of art are based on the finding that com- puter animation (movements, light, sound – i.e. music and text) projected on oil/canvas/photo paintings (painting-installations) not only establishes a new type of relation between visual arts and genres of literature but on meeting an active observer’s attitude it creates a new-type of medium from the static ele- ments of the painting and constantly changing elements of digital animation.

Concept
Imagine that when ancient people saw the media art, they might call it as black magic or witchcraft.
Such an idea came from that notion to call it 'Darkness within' and it is highly inspired by Sven Lions' new sound.
The original performance set was build by group of unknown artists, so we wanted cover our faces to make people feel true contents, not by the fame of artist. So we made sculpture that represents anonymity of artists.

MEET YOUR NEW FRIEND: COGE 1.5
Updated rendering pipeline
Probably the less fancy, but on of the most important change in CoGe 1.5 is the revisited rendering pipeline. While this update focusing in stability and better use of system resources, in some circumstances you could notice some performance increasing:
- LayerGroups should render a bit faster from now
- Core Image effects may rendering faster as well, especially if you use multiple CI effects next to each other
The downside with this change is, the outputImage output port for Quartz Composer modules do not available anymore. The default modules will be updated by the updater, most of the well known modules updated as well, but if you are using your own stuff and you used that parameter before instead of a Billboard/Sprite or something similar at the end, you should check out your modules.
Support for multi-output setups
If you have a Retina Macbook Pro with the possibility to use multiple video outputs – or you just have a Dual/TripleHead setup – then you will be pretty happy with this update: there is a new function, called Aggregate Displays in the app which can make a kind of array from output with the same resolution, and handling it as a fullscreen device. With the existing set up Mixer Modules for Dual/TripleHead rendering, or without those, you can leverage the possibility of using multiple output on your Mac.
Media Bank Presets, OSC enhancements and more
- Media Bank Presets. Now you can save all the Banks of a ClipSynth to a preset file (.cmp).
- Button for triggering the next or previous Media Bankon the collapsed ClipSynths
- Use Source: menu item on buttons, so now you can trigger buttons with a Sequencer or sync to LFOs
- Set Sliders’ In/Out point by manual value
- Defaults OSC messages for most of controls: most of the UI items now have an assigned OSC namespace after launch or gadget creation. Saves a lot of time if you want to control CoGe with OSC, like TouchOSC or Vezér.
- Allow controlling of matrixes with OSC value of a single OSC message: right click on the matrix, and check Uses Single OSC option. Requires floats, like /matrix 3.0 -> selects the matrix 3rd item
- Reset modules to default settings option added to modules on/off buttons right-click menu
- High Contrast mode in addition to theme color selector
- RAM Preload option for faster movie triggering with CoGeMovie players
- Resync button: jumps back to the first beat when using Manual/Tap mode
- Import from Finder option has been added to load content to Media Slots
