Red Bull Music Academy presents Cosmic Expansions with Lonnie Liston Smith, Gilles Peterson and Limbic Cinema.
2015 marks 40 years since Lonnie Liston Smith released his seminal cosmic jazz album Expansions. Celebrating that anniversary with a one-off at a suitably cosmic venue, perennial tastemaker Gilles Peterson joins Smith for a conversation on the sofa before a special performance involving live-visuals from Limbic Cinema.
Expect tales from Smith about the modern jazz movement, his experiences with Sun Ra in the 60s, the afrofuturist movement and more, infused with Peterson's aficionado knowledge of the scene, before Smith performs with a full live band accompanied by Peterson on the decks.
