"Immortals" Projection Mapping Buenos Aires from Simon Victor on Vimeo.
This video was created within a projection mapping exhibition event on Apr 25 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This video was produced from 2 projectors simultaneously in a mirrored labyrinth built inside a gallery space in Buenos Aires.
To make this video I undertook a month long artist residency at Proyecto 'Ace Pirar during the month of April. I based my work on themes and imagery that I found in the work of famed Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.
In one month I tried to read almost everything that he had written. Of course this is an impossible task considering the huge canon of work he produced in his lifetime. However, after reading Ficcones, Labyrinths, Dreamtigers and many others, I used my imagination to create animation and imagery that reflected his themes and stories. Permitting his concepts of mirrors and infinity to infuse my imagination I created abstract imagery and original music inspired by his themes. Borges' writing demonstrates his whirlwind genius and mirrors the precision and potency of his intellect and inventiveness. Borges sends us on journey into a compelling, bizarre and profoundly resonant realm; we enter the fearful sphere of Pascal's abyss, the surreal and literal labyrinth of literature, and the iconography of eternal return. To enter the immortal world of Borges is to dance through alternate dimensions wherein lies rapture, purgatory, sacred geometry and the terror of the infinite.
The music was created and produced with the collaboration of Argentine musician Antonio Boyadjian.
