This piece was created for a Middlebury Town Hall Theater production of A Sunday in the Park With George, a musical about the famous pointillist painter Georges Seurat. It's a visual deconstruction of Seurat's most famous painting – the subject of the play – called "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte." Based on Seurat's fascinating, scientific approach to art, the visuals explore a host of ideas related to the science of color and light.
I created the visuals using a variety of software and visual techniques, from video feedback in Max/MSP/Jitter to Processing sketches to Leap Motion control to Photoshop editing and After Effects animation (in order of appearance). If you're curious about the technical process and creative intention behind the piece, you can check out a detailed behind-the-scenes post on my website: https://www.kyle-meredith.com/single-post/2019/02/21/Chromolume
The song is "Sleep Sound" by Jamie xx. Many thanks to director Doug Anderson, production manager Mary Longley, technicians Joe Plotts and Ken Hypes, and the cast of Middlebury students for providing such a cool opportunity and giving the project a stage.
