fosfor: VJ Tools 019-06 backspinning from eyetrap on Vimeo.
Source clip created in 2004 by VJ fosfor
Raw footage was produced during live sessions in fosfor's "lab". Analogue errors / feedback / glitches were created with several old video mixers and effect units. The equipment was wired up in ever changing ways to achieve different output in every session.
In this clip, some (currently unknown) movie from hong kong was looped on an early digital MFB 512-frame (8 sec) video sampler, filmed with a dv cam from a monitor and processed in an experimental setup. Thanks and respect to the movie makers. Great scene.
Signal was recorded live to S-VHS or DV tape, excerpt picked and burned to DVD.
Each "VJ Tool" DVD held 16 looping clips which could be chosen by menu. Clips were used by fosfor for visual performances in dance clubs or off-venues.
Live mixing was done with two portable DVD players (Pioneer PDV-LC-20) and Panasonic MX12 mixer. In some live setups, additional effect units or infrared live cams were included.
