http://www.mikecelona.net - An abstract video piece celebrating freedom of movement and the tenacity of the elements breaching artificial obstructions placed in their path. Produced using Lumen and a LZX Vidiot remixed in real time with VJ software and then edited in Adobe Premiere. The soundtrack was produced using a Roland GR-55 guitar synthesizer along with ambient audio recorded in my backyard.

VJ'ing is RealTime Concert Visual Performance, in this case, mixing four live cameras with my home made motion graphics. This Video composite is then fed to two, 30 ft displays hung on either side of the stage as part of the show. The VJ software allows me to play my iPad, like a Photoshop layers palette, as though it was a musical instrument.

“Sacred Geometry” is a video mapping developed for the Solid Light Festival 2019 by Darklight Studio.

The mapping is a result of the research about mathematicians and important philosophers of the geometrical theories, as Pythagoras, Hermes, Leonardo da Vinci and many others. We would like to propose a visual journey among ancient philosophy trow the modern graphics and effects of the mapping animation. The narrative works with concepts, symbology and elements of traditional knowledge.

One of our goals is to make a semiotic translation of this symbolic universe to the language of the mapping, working with a contemporary esthetic that combine 3d techniques with symbols of the past.

We also want to emphasizing the important relation of respect between the man and his environment. In times of ecological and climatic discussions, we believe that this point is primordial to be discussed in this narrative. Graphically we work this concept with characters and symbols that mix human and nature, emphasizing the important relationship of respect and interdependence between man and his environment.

modul8 v3.1.5 release & macOS Catalina compatibility

"We recently updated modul8 (and MadMapper) to be compatible with macOS Catalina.

In addition to several fixes, this new modul8 version 3.1.5 is "Catalina-ready" so you can safely use it with the latest macOS.

Unfortunately Apple has stopped the support of 32-bit applications with its new OS...

Modul8 v3 is a 64-bit app so with our last update the software is now updated and compatible.

However modul8 v2 (32-bit only) and related 32-bit plugins will not be compatible with the new macOS.

modul8 v3.1.5 release note : 

- Fixed text rendering problem on macOS Catalina
- Fixed modules loading on macOS Catalina
- Fixed application freezing during startup on macOS Catalina

Recommendation 

If you're using modul8 v2, you can upgrade to modul8 v3 on modul8 Yourspace.

However, if you want to keep using modul8 version 2, do not update your system to macOS Catalina, or re-install macOS Mojave on a separate partition.

The artwork "Hairscape" is performed live. In this video (was recorded in real time, by Obs software), i play live electronic sounds and live visuals, at the same time. The live visuals depict my tiny details of my skin and hair. These details perceived as weird & surreal landscapes. The used interactive filters are searching for analyzing the edges and the structure of these "landscapes". The "Alienscapes+" is an expansion of the ongoing work "Alienscapes & Paintscapes" started in 2016: https://vimeo.com/showcase/5073598 & https://vimeo.com/showcase/4536324. It's an artistic research concerning nature's fractals and fractal expressionism, as the new abstract painting. The "Hairscapes" project uses new media art and various devices for achieving its goals. My attempt was to make a music visualisation video, based on live footage that was streamed by multimedia devices, such as a microscope camera. In this video, the movement of the microscope's digital camera follows up my live sound play. Basically,I am looking for an imagery could be made from scratch.

Entre el 3 y el 6 de octubre de 2019 Cineteca Madrid y Matadero Madrid, con el apoyo de Cervezas La Virgen, celebraron el festival RAYO. Comisariado por Gonzalo de Pedro y Pedro Portellano, el festival transitó entre los campos de lo visual y lo sonoro, y sus múltiples intersecciones. Así, provocó y produjo hibridaciones audiovisuales en las que artistas de distintas disciplinas trabajaron juntos para crear una pieza escénica nueva.

La primera edición de RAYO reunión a la artista visual italiana Rosa Barba junto al músico Chad Taylor; el cineasta portugués Pedro Costa, colaborando con Os Músicos do Tejo; el vj y artista visual portugués Pedro Maia junto al músico berlinés Robert Lippok; el artista Bruce McClure; la compositora Yamila junto con el artista digital Federico Guardabrazo y el bailarín Diego Echegoyen; y el colectivo 3D afincado en Nueva York Pussykrew que escaneó literalmente a la performer y músico berlinesa Peaches.

Bajo esta premisa se convocó a un grupo de colegas a crear un track inédito, que en la mayoría de los casos los sacaría de su estilo musical habitual.

El resultado son 29 interpretaciones alrededor del ambient, drone, experimental y el diseño sonoro.

Run through UE4 into Max8 (Vizzie)

I created the distorted, waving back and forth effect by creating a water material, which uses the absolute world position and a sine function to create a "wavy" image. I then carefully overlayed other objects (walls, the red "X") just barely underneath the surface of the water, which allowed the "waves" of the water and its refracting properties against the lights to generate the trippy effects.

I ran the video feed through a BRCOSR module into a DELAYR, into a PROJECTR.
I an ATTRACTR module to BRCOSR attached on the saturation in order to generate a wide variety of inverted and over saturated visual effects at random.

I also attached the ATTRACTR module to a DATAMANGLR, attached two nodes to the lo and hi ranges, which then attached to the DELAYR which stops the delay from jumping up and down too drastically.

I was able to change the camera while letting effects occur by letting the ATTRACTR module do its thing.

Technical aspects
This was made using unity.
A shader computes a reaction diffusion algorithm over a frame used as a feedback to the same shader. Fast way to run a reaction diffusion.

Textures and dots, reacting to the audio signal, are added as chemical B to the reaction, creating these patterns reacting to the audio.
A force field, generated using a simplex noise, is also used as a displacement map for the reaction-diffusion shader. This creates the movement in the scene.
Color are computed so that they sort of follow the chemicals reaction. This result in a creepy matter, very organic.
Post processing effect are added such as bloom, hue rotation, grayscale, pixellation, mirror, chromatic aberation, lens distortion.
On top of that, a shader apply color operations between the current frame and the last frame. The resulting frame is displayed on the screen.
Some other effects (such as the superposition of images in a sequence) are added on top.
