Phases of the Moon FULL

Phases of the Moon FULL from Fernanda D'Agostino on Vimeo.

Part Three of "Phases of the Moon," created by Mobile Projection Unit (Fernanda D'Agostino and Sarah Turner) for the opening night celebration of The Portland International Film Festival 2020, maps the entire West end of Portland Art Museum's Sunken Ballroom in a full moon orgy of color and content. The full moon brings unfettered creativity and celebration. Festival celebrants are made part of it all through live feed cameras integrating their images into the madness. Isadora allows special effects to be applied in real time to these live camera feeds as well as to prerecorded footage. MadMapper rounds out our kit of programming tools allowing us to apply images to the walls and ceiling of the ballroom with a painterly hand. In addition to the live feeds imagery drawn from pagan festivals still being celebrated in Southern Italy (where both of us have roots) have been altered in Isadora and by glitching, bringing resonances of both the ancient and the technological together for this celebration of "Cinema Unbound." Additional performances by Sophia Wright Emigh and Jaleesa Johnston. Archival festival footage RAI Ethnographic Archives, Cine Citta and Internet Archive
