visual piano @ live cinema sao paolo from kurt laurenz theinert on Vimeo.
Visual Piano The visual piano is an instrument which makes it possible to create moving images in a space. It is unique and was conceived and developed by the photographer and light installation artist Kurt Laurenz Theinert in collaboration with the software designers Roland Blach and Philip Rahlenbeck. Using a MIDI-keyboard it is possible to generate varying graphic patterns which can be digitally projected onto one or more screens. These dynamic and immediate drawings in light are not (as with VJ soft-and Hardware) generated by pre-recorded clips, but every moment of the performance is being played and modulated live and in real time via the keyboard and pedals. Collaboration between MIGUEL BARELLA and THOMAS ROHRER – free improvisation and noise music duo.
About the artists
Kurt Laurenz Theinert is photographer and light artist, concentrates in his work on visual experiences that do not refer, as images, to anything. On the contrary, he is striving for an abstract, reductiv aesthetic that has ultimately led him – through a wish for more dematerialisation – from photography to light as a medium. Close collaboration sound artists and musicians have enriched his work not only by adding another, non- material medium – sound – it has also promoted constant refining and monitoring of his own artistic stance.
Swiss musician Thomas Rohrer (saxophone, violin and fiddle) cultivates, in Brazil, a work that roams openly through free improvisation, jazz and regional music.
Miguel Barella’s career path has taken him from the iconic Agentss to the Voluntários da Pátria post-punk, always defined by experimentalism. In his recent works, Miguel has increasingly dedicated himself to the pursuit of a guitar-based language of his own, steeped in real-time sound processing.
The product of the duo’s collaboration has been an extreme – and contrasting – sense of creative freedom. That was the initial focus of the Rohrer-Barella duo. Sound engineer Miguel processes and mixes Thomas’ fiddle and sax improvisations, interjecting imponderable digressions and electronic overdubs over his Swiss companion’s grounded, natural tones.

This is a work I did for my class (edm4610 Image synthesis and interactivity, UQAM). This is a VJing Performance or, in other words, a realtime visual performance. We had to create a program to procuce a realtime videoclip on a song. In short, every visual element and their movement is programmed. They are triggered by hitting keys on the keyboard while the song is playing. Some elements are programmed to respond to the beat of the song. This homework was made with Processing and the library Minim. Credits: Song: Florence & the Machine, Bedroom Hymns

TVSuicide (RU) Two Alexandrs from a small resort town Primorsk near Vyborg are now both performing in *Chikiss* and *188910* playing quitar and drums. Long before the above-mentioned bands were set up , these guys were actively involved with the music at home, experimenting with the sound waves mostly by means of old soviet reverberators, putting in delay-circles vast varieties of sounds, whistles, various noise, rattles and bits of TV and radio broadcasts together with their voices also involved, performng live with some humming added to this altogether unique, rare and melodic sound pattern. The idea for the "TV Suicide" project was born out of the collaboration with VJ Epiq (Aleksander Smirnov). In the project a VJ first takes cuts from various movies, news broadcasts and ads to sample them. The sound then goes out to be dealt with by the rest of the crew.
Kostikanimal (FR) Christophe Tostain and project Kostik Animal - blend of minimalist electronica and mesmerizing images.
DIE MASCHINENANBETER (BY) My project centres around exploring of hypnotic side of various voice communications between flight operation officers and pilots of US & EU strategic reconnaissance aircrafts like TR-1(U-2), SR-71 etc. It is based on unique tape recordings that were made by my brother Sergei Tolmachov between 1988 and 1989, during military service in USSR Air Defence Forces near Oranienbaum(Sint-Petersburg). I use different layers that represent different realms:
Voice>
It is really difficult to categorise the way these people communicate: it is not a regular talk, it is not singing, it is not poetry reading, nor it is raping. They belonged to "voice subculture" that was never exposed to the public, hence abandoned, forgotten, unknown. They repeat their call signs, coordinates, messages over and over again on a daily basis through years which become so polished so fluid so musical so hypnotic that you can call it their daily mantras. I selected 11 fragments from the tape (with the duration up to 10 seconds) that were used as mantras (consequently repeated fragment of voice communication with a slight decrease of duration with every next loop until it finally ceases in time). Each point of mantra's collapse is ended by the same mantra with the original duration. All mantras are divided by continuous interlude radio speeches.
Sound> Besides voice communications, this tape contains all kind of sound traces left from radio frequencies, distortions, additional subharmonics caused by transmitting, receiving and recording equipment. Unfortunately, weak tape machines and worn tape couldn't reproduce all nuances of that powerful sound. To reconstruct this layer of raw sound electricity, I decided to use sound of soviet-era analogue synthesizers, organs and drum modules from 80s of last century. It is well known that major part of soviet synthesizers were designed and produced at military plants and were made from the same electrical circuits, used the same ideas as their older brothers (all kinds of radio transmitters, receivers etc.). Therefore they share the same sound signatures.
Video> The whole history of soviet cosmic & sci-fi movies compressed in 30 minutes.
The idea of this project is to bring together above mentioned realms including all related notions, objects, ideas, people, sounds and remelt them at such a degree that they are no more perceived as eclectic parts but rather as solid bases of another consistent cyber space, where you can easily reconnect and reunite them with each other in single space and time.

Psychedreamya is a short movie I've made about the Fool's journey to the Sun. In order to reach there, the Fool has to grow a series of experiences. He has to learn how to understand and accept himself. In order to get rid of the Past, he needs to face it and of course, confusion will be present. Psych-dream-ya is the place where dream and reality meet. Everything is symbolic.

PRISMA 1666 - Interactive Installation from Wonwei on Vimeo.
In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton conducted a famous experiment that has been widely considered as a landmark discovery in the study of optics and color theory. Inspired by this discovery, PRISMA 1666 is an interactive light installation consisting of 15 triangular crystal blocks distributed randomly on a clean white surface. The projection of colorful graphics is refracted and dispersed by these crystal blocks, creating a fascinating visual experience and ambiance. The installation enables interaction with the projected colors, angles, and shapes through a touch interface, creating an opportunity to experiment with these elements like Isaac Newton did so many years before us. The installation is a collaboration between Wonwei and Shanghai-based design studio Super Nature Design. It was first exhibited at the 2011 International Science and Art Exhibition in Shanghai where it received the Best Creative Design Award. How To: Create dynamic Flash text for GrandVJ from Ben Guerrette on Vimeo.
Here’s my second tutorial showing how to take advantage of the Flash capabilities within ArKaos GrandVJ. This one covers the creation of dynamic text visuals. I’ll go explain how to tap into the “statement” variable within Flash so you can create your own text based clips. I’ll also touch on the “duration” and “position” variables, which if used properly, allow playback speed adjustment of code based animations. We’ll be using some basic ActionScript 2.0 that’s a little more advanced than the previous tutorial.. Note that it will also work for NuVJ and MediaMaster since the variables are the same.

Jön a New Yorkban nagydíjat nyert Vakondok második része!
November 17-én kerül bemutatásra a Vakondok szubkulturális dokumentumfilm második része, Demoscene – Az Algoritmusok Művészete címmel.
A számítástechnika világunk leggyorsabban fejlődő ága, mely egyre újabb lehetőségeket teremt a művészet terén is.

Éjféltől kezdetét veszi a zenei stílus kavalkád.
A partyt, a demoscene-es gyökerekkel is rendelkező, Mercenary zúzos hardcore szettje zárja, aki jelenleg a NARG Entertainment-nek is tagja.

At this event I VJ-ed, videotaped, photographed and then made this video afterward (concept, editing & effects).
Thanx to: Marc (Eject), Umek (for his piece "Gatex 2010"), D'Jamency, Philip Morax, Ronny Vergara, Dopers, Nico Blanc, Globull staff, and to all of those groovy people I videotaped ;-)
As usual, a bit of a challenge to videotape in a dark night club - again saved by both the CCTV security camera (despite the so-so image quality) & the wonderful *old*(late 90's) Sony D8 camcorder (despite the infrared bright spot & red eye issues). My new HD did OK, one of the best on the market for low lighting (affordable), but it still could not hold-up to these 2 babies.
And, well...at this event I was too focused on VJ-ing and did not shoot as well as I should have, and thus it was a bit of a strain pulling this video together out very little good shots of DJs and clubbers.
A special thanx my lovely editing app, despite all the god damn crashes (sigh)...you're still the best baby, I'm still all yours despite the fact that the majority of job market requests are for FCP & Avid ;-)

Reverse and Stereowall - Optikal Ink Lab from Optikal Ink Lab on Vimeo.
[ English ] "Reverse" is an installation made with video projection, showing the nature and power of perspective and optical illusions. In the first appreciation of the object, the plans diverge on the horizon rather than converging, leading the viewer to investigate the work as well explore and discover the magic of perception and confirmation that things are not always what they look! "Stereo Wall" is an installation made with video projection based on principles of stereography, the goal is set in motion this optical illusion on a large scale and create a 3D feel. The viewer should read some basic guidelines using the technique of cross-eyed free-to see stereograms and maintain a minimum distance to appreciate the image. Stereographic effect may decrease or increase depending on the distance to the artwork and the field of view .
