BBC Radio 1 Club Visuals 2013 from Found on Vimeo.
Radio 1 approached us to update their live event visuals for use across a broad range of venues and artist performances.
We created a vast assortment of animated loops in a range of colour palettes. Each loop was also provided in three different visual tempos to provide VJ's with appropriate content for the wide diversity of artists Radio 1 represent.
An additional collection of visuals were created for the "In New Music We Trust" brand, providing a grittier alternative for live events.
All in all, a total of over 400 separate animated deliverables!

MadMapping é um workshop de video mapping focado na técnica de video-projecção em objectos físicos 3D e superfícies arquitectónicas. Até hoje, a técnica necessária para o conseguir, foi um entrave ao desenvolvimento criativo dos artistas visuais que se queriam dedicar a esta área da performance e expressão visual. Durante muito tempo, estava exclusivamente confinada a especialistas e à sua capacidade de programar as próprias ferramen- tas. O novo software MadMapper, lançado oficialmente há duas semanas, foi desenvolvido pelos criadores do Modul8 (software de referência junto da comunidade VJ mundial) e pela equipa 1024 Architecture (pioneiros e grupo de referência do video mapping mundial). A técnica de projecção para video mapping está agora à distância de alguns cliques.
Sobre o MadMapper:
O MadMapper é uma ferramenta criada para simplificar o processo de video mapping e projecções em superfícies 3D. O software é uma colaboração entre a equipa do Modul8 e a 1024 Architecture. Usa o Syphon, framework do sistema operativo Mac OSX 10.6, e permite a utiização do Modul8 e do MadMapper em simultâneo, por forma a mapear conteúdos pré-existentes, prontos a usar no Modul8. Adicionalmente, o MadMapper pode ser conjugado com qualquer software que suporte o framework Syphon, como são exem- plos o Quarz Composer, VDMX, Max/MSP/Jitter e muitos outros.

I had the opportunity to do some mapping in the Museo de Artes Plásticas Eduardo Sívori in Buenos Aires.
Since I only had a couple days of preparation, I quickly came up with a plan and went with it.
With a little help from my friends, we built origami cubes and I was able to project onto them.
As the wind knocked them down, the projection would follow which led the public to believe they were LED cubes :)

Kurious is a collaboration between Emily Bailey Live Visuals and ACRA. Emily Bailey is a moving image artist working with film and digital media to create abstract live visuals for bands and musicians. ACRA is an inventive electronic producer making ambient and washed out beats by fusing vintage sounds and cassette hardware with pristine production.
Kurious is a rumination on the body, cosmetic enhancement and physical perfection. By physically manipulating film and using materials that act as extensions of the body such as hair, a sense of synthetic consciousness has been engineered as the materials begin to take on a life of their own. The search for perfection becomes an unachievable and endless loop twinned with degradation and disintegration.
Mixture of analogue and digital material:
Analogue: coloured ink, oil, vinegar, hair, tape, cotton threads, cotton wool, staples, plastic discs, masking tape on 16mm black and clear leader, found 16mm film footage.
Digital: macro footage of eyes, skin, hair and blades
Digitally edited and composited.

Joanie Lemercier is a French visual artist based in Bristol (UK) who runs the visual label AntiVJ. Clearly stepping away from standard setups and techniques, Lemercier presents unique light performances and installations that challenge the audience by creating optical illusions that question one's perception of space. Taking visuals away from the restrictions of flat rectangular screens, he transforms flat surfaces, sculptures or buildings into hypnotizing canvasses to create immersive site-specific experiences.
In his light canvases’ body of work, precise light beams pass over an array of rectangular structures printed on a flat surface. Darkness and illumination alternates to create an immersive three-dimensional experience transforming our sense of space. As Edward Rothstein wrote in the NY Times in 2011 in an article called "When Pictures Leap to Other Screens", there really is a thrill to these experiments. You are amazed at the technology while being entranced by the effects. Moving images, though the familiar substance of experience, have only been created in recent centuries. They seem more real than still images, but are more artificial in themselves, even unsettling; they resemble experience but seem divorced from it, even supplanting it. And while a still image proclaims permanence, a moving image is evanescent. Whatever the medium, it also has unusual power to affect perceptions and inspire amazement".

Lot of behaviours are active (randoms, time, duration, etc...).
The 3D rotation of somes items (trackball fonction) is done with mouse and click.
This digital Mandala tapestry emphasize the belief digital, it’s also breath with ambient sounds captured with a microphone.

THE GRID is the scenography we designed for the stage at La SAT during Mutek Montréal 2013. The whole structure is 14 meters by 4 meters and is made out of conventional shelving and 315 pixel-mapped lights. To keep it evolving in every show, we created a system that produced 10 different screen layouts and could be switched in 3 minutes between the artists.
For the visuals Mutek booked 13 VJ's, some for the low-res layer and the other for the projections. We had the pleasure to VJ for John Tejada, The Field, Saschienne, Michael Mayer, Onra and Graze.
The light and projection mapping was done with MAD MAPPER.

Learn how to leverage a multitude of visual tools to create powerful interactive experiences using Syphon, Syphon compatible software and Mad Mapper. This two part course you will:
Part 1:
Introduction to Syphon and Projection mapping:
Learn how to leverage Syphon to use various different visual software tools together, learn about various projection mapping software and techniques, featuring how to use Mad Mapper with, Modul8, VDMX, Resolume. Learn how to set up projects efficiently, make best use of the capabilities of various software, and learn about other off the shelf Syphon compatible software to experiment with in your workflows.
Additionally, we will be showcasing more in depth use of Mad Mapper, introducing projection mapping techniques and strategies you can use with any Syphon compatible software.
Part 2:
Advanced Syphon workshop - use Syphon to leverage creative coding environments like OpenFrameworks, Max MSP / Jitter and Quartz Composer, Processing and others, and learn about the lower level Syphon API for use in custom OpenGL enabled software. You will learn about how Syphon works internally, and how to leverage the Syphon plugins for programming environments, and how to set up and efficiently use Syphon in your own applications.

For those interested in the technical setup of the video:
Quartz Composer was used to composite the various Syphon streams, via the Syphon plugin for Quartz Composer.
v002 Screen Capture plugin captures the screen within Quartz Composer, 4 Syphon Clients pull frames from Modul8, VDMX, and Resolume Avenue 4 and "Simple Client" simultaneously (all at 720p resolution) with alpha channels.
Quartz Composer then composites these live video feeds together along with the Eyebeam logo, and then a single Syphon Server sends the entire mix to both the Syphon Recorder application, and to Mad Mapper simultaneously.

This is the clip for the new version of the song 'Rain' from Front 242. This clip and many others are played during the live shows of the tour 2013-2014. The idea behind this video was to start from a basic graphic element like a raindrop and to mix it it with some more complex abstract textures to evocate a sort of flood. There is no indication of time or scale, It could be the end or the beginning of a universe. Nobody knows. Not even me… I think that the result is interesting between the 'forbidden' twirl effect and a painting of Van Gogh.
The sound is the dry track without the drum, keyboard or voice. All these elements are added on stage.

Music festival organizer Future Sound Asia (FSA) approached us to do a promo video and once again we are lucky enough to be given an open brief as long as it has something to do with light trails, light painting or anything of that sort. When I heard that Smashing Pumpkins is going to be the headliner, the first question I asked to the client was "Are we going to get any free tickets?"
Drawing inspiration from VJ Suave (www.vjsuave.com) and Motiofixo (www.motiofixo.com) we derived our little own version of projection bombing video with some hipster cartoon characters designed by our very own talented Kit Khong, which were then translated into a collaborative effort with graphic designers Little Ideas Everyday (www.wearenotlie.com) for the concert posters.
What ensues then was a crazy journey of animation, shooting, shrink-wrapping musical instruments, projection mapping, more shooting, editing, clean-ups, color grading and more editing, all created with Canon (www.canon.com.my) and Adobe (www.adobe.com/sea/purchase/?view=malaysia) equipments and software.
Big thanks to everyone involved in this project, especially Ben Law, Ramesh Ramakrishnan and Alman, the guys from FSA who believe in us!
