ZSOLNAY LIGHT ART COMPETITION

One of the key objectives of the Zsolnay Festival of Light is to present the works of art within the confines of Hungary's first light festival.

In 2016 the Zsolnay Festival of Light first invites for the international money-prize Zsolnay Light Art Mapping Competition on the facade of the Cathedral of Pécs.

The competition is the central attraction of Zsolnay Festival of Light, and the works will be displayed for two nights on July 1 and 2. on the facade.

In previous years, the city of Pécs has already welcomed mapping artists on many occasion, but this year, in addition to the main facade of the basilica, for the first time ever the towers will be projected on as well, thus creating a unique and monumental sight.

The organisers of the Zsolnay Festival of Light commisioned the internationally renowned Hungarian artist group, Glowing Bulbs to be their professional partner, not only to host and manage the tournament, but also to compose their own mapping for the occasion.

The competition is to be held in one division, however, in addition to the prize granted by the jury, other special awards are expected, and the mapping work voted to be the best by the audience is also going to be rewarded.

Zsolnay Light Art Mapping Competition can be visited free of charge and is recommended for any age groups.

ABOUT THE COMPETITON

Topic of the competition: The Birth of Light
Site: The southern facade of the Cathedral of Pécs including the towers (see template)
Date of competition: 1-2 July, 2016

Tender:

We are expecting audiovisual mapping works reflecting on the topic of The Birth of Light harmonizing with the architecture of the building, the spirit and traditions of the Cathedral of Pécs.

The contest is open to any individual or group, amateur or corporate/professional applicants and students as well. The individual applicants under the age of 18 can take part only with written parental permission.

Applicants registering for the competition are automaticly accepting the rules involved.

Zsolnay Mapping Festival 2nd Place – Euro 3,000
Zsolnay Mapping Festival 3rd Place – Euro 2,000

Structure of the competition:

The competition consists of three phases:

Application and Concept submission
submission deadline: 6 May 2016
feedback to the candidates: 13 May 2016

Criteria:
- Completed application form
- Concept description – candidates shall presents their works to be implemented in short descriptions
- Mood or Storyboard – candidates shall present their works to be implemented through the still images of the dramaturgically important scenes by using a template provided by the Zsolnay Mapping Festival, possibly presenting the mood of the accompanying music as well

Criteria:
- The shortlisted participants shall present their complete project in fullHD resolution with music.
