USING LEMUR WITH COGE

Lemur is a very flexible and customisable iOS controller app, which supports MIDI and OSC as well – but this time we will focus only on OSC. In my opinion the most important parts of Lemur are the template editor and the built-in physics engine, but you can check out the product’s page and read about all it’s feature-set.

So, Lemur is a controller app, and you can control CoGe with it from your iPad/iPhone, and here is the how-to:

I got impressed by the tracks an after I read some critics.
This is a tribute to Nicolas Jaar's track, The Ego, concerning the “Buy Nothing Day” movement that strives to acknowledge the problems with over-consumption in our society in opposition to “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday”.
These two days embodies our fascination with consumption.
The created rastafarian sounding fellow Theater Roosevelt creates a tough task for lyric lovers but the lyrics in this song are apparently quotes of profound proclamations made by the candidates during the recent U.S. elections.

Mapping Festival

D-3..the countdown is on!

The first artists have arrived, t-shirts are being printed, programs have been distributed throughout the city, stage production has started and the volunteers meeting was held last Thursday …we are (almost) ready!

This year's program mixes numerous genres et trends that the Festival has been promoting for the last 9 years. As always, the Mapping festival showcases worldwide avant-garde talents who promote innovation in the audio visual field. Hundreds of artists will take part in the 50 concerts, performances and events that will occur during the 10 days of this 9th edition.

The Mapping Festival, held from May 2nd till May 12th, will be presenting a program with outdoors and indoors activities, including worldwide and European premieres!

This year we will present to you our most international and ambitions edition ever !

MAPPING FESTIVAL HEADQUARTERS
For the first time this year, the heart of the Contemporary Art Building (BAC), Le « Commun », will be converted into our festival Headquarters, with art installations as well as workshops, roundtables, our ticket office, a merchandising stand and a bar.
The 9th edition of the Mapping festival will officially open on Thursday May 2^nd, from 6pm, with the Opening of the Exhibition.
We warmly invite you, from May 2^nd to 12th, to discover the dark poetry of Sougwen Chung, the hypnotic and heart-beating atmosphere of Nonotak, the colorful immersion of Squidsoup, the universe of graphics and sounds of Weng Nam Yap and the cloudy constellation of Sembilan Matahari.
Our Headquarters will also welcome “Combustion”, a smoky and electric performance from French artist RKO, the urban and immersive performance “Layers” from V-Atak label artist Nohista, the absurd and cartoonish “The 1000 people band” from duo Gangpol & Mit, and, last but not least, the eagerly awaited performance by MoritzSimon Geist and the MR808 robot.
Le « Commun » will be a place to network, exchange, and meet professionals, artists, journalists and the Mapping team. A warm and friendly space, just like our festival !

JEUDI 9 MAI // THURSDAY MAY, 9 Spoutnik EUROPEAN SOUVENIRS Introduit par les artistes et experts du remix espagnol de ZEMOS98, European Souvenirs est créé par un ensemble de cinq artistes européens, aux nationalités diverses. Originaires d’Espagne, de Pologne, du Royaume-Uni, de Turquie et des Pays-Bas, leurs différents profils sont complémentaires. Ce collectif d'artistes médias, performeurs, animateurs 3D, documentaristes, musiciens, Djs et Vjs travaille avec des matériaux audiovisuels issus d'importantes institutions européennes. Ainsi, le Eye Film Institute (NL), l’Institut voor Beeld en Geluid (NL), la Nationaal Archief (NL), le Sarnamihuis (NL), la Fundacja Archeologia Fotografii (PL), le National Digital Archive (PL) et bien d’autres leur ont ouvert leurs archives afin de matérialiser ce projet. Le public profitera d'un voyage audiovisuel au travers de la réinterprétation de l'origine et des archives institutionnelles. La performance s’efforce de capter le point de vue d'une nouvelle génération de créateurs médias sur les problèmes et inquiétudes clés de l'Europe dans laquelle nous vivons. European Souvenirs est une performance de Karol Rakowski (PL), Barış Gürsel (TR), Farah Rahman (NL), Malaventura (ES) and Noriko Okaku (JP/UK) qui à été présentée pour la première fois en octobre 2012 à Amsterdam, et tourne à travers l'Europe et au-délà depuis. Elle a été Commandée par la Fondation Culturelle Européenne.

Travelling is remixing “The archive both registers and creates the event,” wrote Jacques Derrida in Archive Fever. We choose what we keep, how we want to keep it and where to keep it, thereby creating history as we know it. With this knowledge, new archives, with new tales, can be created from existing ones. So given a contrasting context, every document can represent something completely different. This is something similar to the departure point of a project called European Souvenirs, which brings together five media artists from five European countries, as they scoured through leading audiovisual archives all over the continent. The project’s curators are the “remix experts” of the Spanish Zemos98, a collective comprised of VJs, DJ’s, animators, performers, musicians and filmmakers, all focusing on the reinterpretation of existing material. In the context of this project, they opted for both musicians and visual artists, so that the remixing could concentrate on both sound and vision. The overall impression is one that alternates between melancholy and energy, with the odd bit of eroticism thrown in for good measure. But thanks, in part, to its high quality and mostly very danceable electronic music and excellent sound bites, it’s hardly ever boring. Here and there the chaotic flow is punctuated by silence, while an individual anecdote is related. All in all, it’s a sensory, associative trip through collective memories in which you really do feel as though it’s all being created on the spot. The chaotic reiteration that this project promises to be, must include the inherent complexity of an abstract concept like European identity, which, from this production, will certainly not come across as stable. Borders are constantly shifting and changing, memories are always reinventing themselves and unity is taking refuge in being different, as if acknowledging the fact that no two stories are the same. Remixing, as the mission statement of the project stresses, is more than just the artistic heritage of an avant-garde concept of collage. It’s also more than the DJs’ sampling culture from the 1980s. Remixing is part of our culture and it influences the cross-fertilisation of areas such as education, communication, culture and politics. Borders are there to be visually crossed.

Onionlab presents Evolució, a piece that revolves around the graphic and sound abstraction of the concept it is named after: evolution. It is construed as transformation, construction and alteration of reality through time; evolution as a discontinuous creation process as well. Created with 3D projection mapping techniques, this time, Evolució will be projected onto the façade of the Geneva Art and History Museum, though the piece takes the evolution concept even further: It was conceived as an open transformation process so that it can also be adapted to different façades and projection surfaces, and so that Evolució can continue its transformation process.

1.( often initial capital letter ) Roman Catholic Theology . a region on the border of hell or heaven, serving as the abode after death of unbaptized infants (limbo of infants) and of the righteous who died before the coming of Christ (limbo of the fathers or limbo of the patriarchs)
2.A place or state of oblivion to which persons or things are regarded as being relegated when cast aside, forgotten, past, or out of date: My youthful hopes are in the limbo of lost dreams.
3. An intermediate, transitional, or midway state or place.
4. A place or state of imprisonment or confinement.

The bird cage, where your first pet lived and died, you haven’t had a bird since you were eight, yet the cage has been carried with you on every move, simply because you once loved a bird with all your heart. Your grandmother’s lace curtains, carefully hand-made, and your most prized possession at 22, they haven’t served their purpose as curtains for years. A then state-of-the-art travel television set, the very first thing you bought with your first pay check, now just looks comically large and outdated . An old mirror. A cat mask.
These items all have a story. They are currently in limbo.
As human beings we tend to project our hopes and dreams into inanimate objects, perhaps thinking that a new table will make us happy, an expensive bag will express who we truly are, or an inherited dress will bring back happy memories. But what happens when we stop projecting our dreams into these items? What do we do when their value drops on our internal stock market?
Some of these items are broken, cheap, without any emotional value, and we discard them, throw them away without afterthought. Others, like the items in this exhibit, end up in limbo. They are too beautiful, too valuable, or carry too much nostalgic importance to simply get rid of – but they don’t fit into our current lives or apartments.
This exhibit explores what happens when you stop projecting into these items, and instead project onto them. Scents and textures trigger memories, and assign new values to old items. As do sound. Using three projectors, a digital mapping system and Merete Mongstad’s sound design, artist Tone Emblemsvåg lets the items in limbo tell their story. Left in an old attic in an abandoned house their value is reassigned, and they slowly come back to life.

Tone Emblemsvåg (f. 1973) is an illustrator, set designer and VJ. She is currently moving for the first time in 13 years. While working with this exhibit, she has brought a new item from her attic every day, and added it to the installation. Visual artist Audun Notevarp has contributed to the video mapping, and SM Mongstad has designed the soundscape.
