VJ Novel (draft)

VJ Novel (draft) from John Namu Choi on Vimeo.

VJ Novel visualizes a novel.

First of all, randomly ordered view also can be seen for those who want to see what words are used through out the novel because the text size represents the frequency of word. Thirty most used words in entire novel also can be seen.

Main part of this project is splitting novel into 12 sections and shows around 30 most used nouns at each section. So what words used more at the beginning, the middle, and the end can be seen. Also, same words are connected by line, so can see how the frequency changes through out the novel. For example, in the Mobydick (above video) 'whale' has been seen in entire novel but it become more important from middle of novel to the end. The word of 'sperm' has less importance at the beginning but it gets much more importance at the end. Also, the word of 'arm' becomes less important as novel goes to the end.

This project offer a one big picture of a long novel to people to see the structure of it. Without reading an entire novel, it is easy to capture the outline of a novel.
